Sons of Scum at City Academy?

The sons of United duo Robin van Persie and Phil Neville are with CITY'S academy.

Shaqueel van Persie, seven and Harvey Neville, 11, are both training with the Blues youth set-up rather than following in their father's own footsteps with the Reds.

It is unclear why striker van Persie, who cost United £24m and Neville, who spent 10 years there as a player after coming through the youth ranks and has returned as a coach, have decided to point their children in the direction of the Reds' cross-town rivals.

Both boys are said to be talented and two years ago van Persie's former club Arsenal were said to be interested in snapping up Shaqueel.

Harvey plays for his school, St Bede's, which is where a number of City's academy stars study.

A source told the M.E.N.: "There's quite a bit of surprise about it. You would have thought that if they were going to be with anyone it would have been United."

Back in 2012 while with Arsenal van Persie revealed Shaqueel was a chip off the old block.

'I honestly have to say that he has got a lot of talent for football," he said.

'I recognise a lot of stuff of myself in him. His coach is really great. Arsenal has invited him a couple of times to come and play there but he likes it at his club. He's sensitive for a good atmosphere. Just like me.'

With their new training ground set to open later this year and with Financial Fair Play rules to abide by City are making plenty of effort to ensure they produce the next generation of Blues superstars themselves.

That might be one of the reasons why the youngsters are not with United, who are currently seventh in the Premier League, well behind title-chasing City in second.

Both go to training sessions with the Blues although it is not understood that either have actually signed for the club yet.

Youngsters cannot do so until the end of their Under 8s season.

United declined to comment.

What's your point? If by some chance they go through our academy all the way to our first team and become good players, who cares what their father's did.

One of our (seemingly) hottest prospects is Devante Cole, son of Andrew, that fella who was quite prolific for the rags

Point is the CEO of BMW driving around in a Mercedes ... or even if you consider them to be more like Toyota or Hyundai ... is their own academy that bad that their players have to send their kids to ours??

Other way to look at that ag7 is that the parent have knowledge of football and maybe fully understand that we are on the up in terms of development and academy. They may know that rags days are numbered ;-)

If RVP's son by some chance becomes a world beater for us I won't be too bothered.
Maybe their kid prefers the set up at our academy?
Bit of a non story.

Well surely seeing as the academies are merit based, a big fundamental issue is whether united believe they are good enough. If not, then it's a non-story and city either see something in them that other clubs can't, or just trying to get one over the rags

But neither Van Persie or Neville are CEOs of Manchester United are they? In your scenario they'd be employees.

Now for an employee to drive around in a car that's not the make of where they work is that weird? If you still think so then what about when they're more removed because we're talking about their sons?

And they're not really playing for City are they? It's less like being in a car and more like being in a school a car manufacturer set up.

So what you're really asking is if the son of an employee at BMW went to a school funded by Mercedes would there be public outcry. Maybe you do have a point.

More like "if the son of an employee at Dacia went to a school funded by Porsche..."

SVP had a chance to go to Le Arse or Swamp academies but chose ours. Says a lot about how far we've come.

If they were leaving me about £20m in their will, I could cope.

I see United players at Platt Lane a lot. I'm quite sure there are more than just RVPs and Neville's lads. It shows how good the set up is and in July it goes up a whole new level.

We need to accept as fans that players don't feel the same ways as we do in regard to the rivalry. If your looking at what is beat for you son then it's a no brainier.

Thanks sis ... THAT was my whole point ... that our academy must be doing something right and surely better than rags' that even their own players are bringing their kids to us ...

Some people just want to argue for the sake of an argument on here!
