I'm 100% sure they could have done a decent job for us this season and been more useful than some players we've used.

Bad management?

Kolo has been absolutely dire for Liverpool after the first few matches.

Barry wanted a regular first team place we couldn't (nor shouldn't) offer him and Kolo was out of contract on a huge wage and isn't really where our problems lie

barry and lescott solve our immediate issues of demicheles and garcia. this was pointed out in august 2013, every week throughout the season, and emphasised in jan 2014.......

50 Gareth Barry's wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference tonight, as for kolo, please.

Honestly do not get all the calls for Gareth Barry. No pace and was starting to slide after February last season. Honestly wouldn't swap him for Garcia

Barry could have done a job for us, particularly in those early games like Cardiff and Villa away where Pellegrini's naivety was horribly exposed. Whilst Garcia has improved in the latter part of the season, we were left without adequate centre midfield cover early in the season when Fernandinho was still adjusting and Garcia was still shite. In many of those early games, we had huge gaps in between defence and midfield which the opposition exploited, which was made especially worse when Pellegrini was playing that useless idiot Nastasic too.

Keeping Barry for one final season would have been a smart move, considering how well he's played for Everton this season. He wouldn't have played every week but I think we could have involved him enough to keep him happy in his final season, particularly with the chance of winning medals too.

I agree. He may have responded to the competition. He's had a good season at Everton and there has to be a reason for that. Kolo is and was over the hill.
