Spanish World Cup squad

Looks like both Navas and Negredo will fail to make the final cuts for the squad with late season form and lack of playing time to blame. Good for City to be honest

Who gets in ahead of Negredo? Torres or Soldado can't think of who else and neither of those are even fit to lace his boots.

Lots of "false number 9s!!"

Could see Torres getting the nod given more game time and tbh no worsen than Negredo towards end of season, albeit that's saying very little about either.

Villa Costa and Torres seem to have got the nod according to Spanish press. Silva's in of course.

Negredo scored 26 goals last season. I don't know how torres would ever be considered ahead of him.

Sorry Gents but quite how on earth could you merit picking Negredo, given from mid-Jan onwards - essentially for 4 months - hes looked utterly hopeless? Like a ringer out of the crowd who's turned up & got a game, is mad keen but woefully short on confidence. Spain have many better alternatives at present given their system, often playing 6 midf and no rcognised striker.

Navas has been injured & essentialy hasnt played so no surprise hes out as well. A shame for both of them, like Nasri, but helps us as they both get a rest.

You can prob pencil Navas, Nasri & Negredo into our Community Shield starting XI as a result.

It looks like Costa will be ok for Brasil and Villa's playing pretty well. I agree Torres is a slight surprise but Del Bosque knows him well. Anyway he may not get a game out there. Citywatch has the story from a respected Spanish source. Always a chance it's wrong but Negredo has been desperately poor since the injury at Spurs. It's good for us that we have a nucleus of good players not playing in the World Cup. Clichy Nastasic Fernando if he comes Nasri Jovetic Navas Negredo. That's a pretty good bunch right there.

Can't see how Negredo could complain? He's been cack for several months (!) now, absolutely dreadful. The likes of Torres & Villa, even if long past their prime, are established in the national team & def more in-form. Llorente has scored 16 in the league.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Fabregas get a lot of minutes instead of the strikers as well.

Diego Costa is an odd one. 1 cap, no time to gel with the other players so far, dogged by injuries in the last couple of weeks, barely fit to play the WC. Can't see him making a big impact tbh, certainly not to the extent some people seem to expect.

No Alberto Moreno either. Guess he's not as good as everyone thinks if Azpaz is ahead of him, behind Alba.

As with Nasri, I'm disappointed for Navas and Negredo personally, but for City, this is a good thing!

And I still haven't a clue as to what a false nine is. If they're not nines, why not call them for what they really are?

Heard yesterday that Negredo may have been having some 'security' issues at his house recently. Between that and the injury, you can see where the form went. Let's hope everything gets sorted over summer and he's back fit and fresh, as he may be the only one up front who is.

Pretty straight forward isn't it? A striker who doesn't stay high up the park or in this instance a midfielder starting at striker and not staying high up the park.

Not rocket science.

It is a shame tbh. Never want to see a player have to miss a world cup which imo is the absolute pinnacle of being a footballer, or it should be.
Won't do Negredo's confidence any good either.

on the flip side, he has something to prove next season.
