To be fair 39 goals is not shabby. Deserves a bit of credit. I know football can be ruthless at times but you can do things with class. Look at Lescotts departure for instance

I'm starting to think so.
Problem is for the Rags he is class, he gets on the ball, dominates games, makes things happen and scores good and important goals. He plays with so much confidence for them and as Ted said is one of the best opponents we've faced in the PL.

Put him in an England shirt and he plays like Corradi. Utter shite. The argument or keeping him in the side is that he is arguably our only top international player and he is capable of producing something special but he hasn't produced anything special for England for years now. How long do we persevere? Can we keep a player in the side who does nothing for the majority of a game just because they might do something good once every 8 games?

It's frustrating as hell. I remember seeing him as a teenager in Euro 2004 play without fear and completely dominate, scare and take on teams, he hasn't done that since.

He won't be dropped though but I really hope that in the next game he reacts and proves his worth, he is capable but if he can't show it now he can fuck off.

Either you play Rooney in his best positions or you don't play him at all. Lallana's a better bet on the left and will offer better protection for Baines who needed it. So he should either play up front replacing Sturridge which ain't gonna happen or off Sturridege in the centre. That said he was in the centre when he missed that sitter in the second half.

You look for something extra from your senior and so called better players, leadership and responsibility as much as anything else.

When it gets rough you want to see him dig in and set the standard - so what does he do? He's struggling to contain them down the left, so he winges to the bench during the first half and what do you know he's shifted to the right side for the second half, shirking responsibility and leaving it to someone else.

Lets move forward without him - too often found wanting on the big occasion at international level, we now have other players with talent happy to step up, we shouldn't build a team that accommodates him as it holds us back. Analyse the 39 goals, who they were scored against and where. It doesnt render the tally irrelevant, but does not make him irreplaceable. will he add to it by scoring or coming up with something in the remaining two games or are others just as likely to?. Id drop him.

What should have happened, is that Rooney should have started on the bench, then with 20-30 mins to go & the oppo defence getting tired, you bring him on & he has the chance to be a hero. If he succeeds, you don't start him, you do exactly the same next game & so on.

Never mind how good he CAN be, look at how he has performed in the warm ups and that first match - on current form he doesn't deserve to be in the starting eleven. His only decent contribution was the cross for the goal.

The Times gave him 6. More than Hart or Baines and the same as a number of the Italians. Do the reporters actually watch the game, or are they too busy writing it up as they go along, thus not really following the action or lack of it in Shreks case
