David Silva will be ordered to rest for a month following Spain's shock early exit from the World Cup to cure an ankle problem.

The Manchester City midfielder has been playing with an ongoing knock for the last three months and has had little time off.
City players competing over in Brazil will already have three weeks off from the moment their national teams exit the tournament.
Silva, however, is now being handed an extra week's rest. He will join up with the rest of the City squad on their tour of the United States towards the end of next month.
City chief Manuel Pellegrini will hope the 28-year-old's chance to recharge his batteries will ensure he returns revitalised as the team looks to retain the Premier League title and make further progress in the Champions League next term.

We knew he was carrying an injury at City, but I assumed he would be fit again if selected for Spain.

You can see the point re the cartel potential bust up with FIFA over insurance, if international teams are playing players injured. Yaya clearly wasn't fit tother day, & there are suggestions Ronaldo is risking a knee injury.

Edit: looks like it means City will give him an extra week not Spain, but my main point is about injuries anyhow.

I once heard a former player say that he always played with niggles and discomfort of one kind or another which seems very credible. Very sensible of City to give him an extra week particularly since his World Cup is ending early and we'll get him back a little sooner than expected anyway.

Oh yeah most do for their clubs (Aguero has rarely been fit since we signed him imo) but at international level, with the clubs footing the bill & FIFA banking all the profits ?

I hate the cartel, but they have got a very fair point on this one imo.

So glad Spain got knocked out.
If they'd gone all the way to the final then god knows what state Silva would be in for next season. Let's hope he gets chance for a decent and deserved rest.

Absolutely.

Had Spain got to the final, we would effectively have had to write Silva off for a few months, due to both injury and fatigue.

We have to take some blame , we rolled him out after xmas when not fit.

Silva will be straight off to Gran Canaria in double quick time to eat healthy BBQ food,read books and have the odd glass of Sangria.

As long as he doesn't kick them potatoes around with his gran again. Potentially dangerous!

Im not playing at there level but I am the same. Haven't been 100% fit for many years now. Just had a whole week off which was bliss as iv been at it for 12 months with no break. David will defo benefit for 4 weeks off.

im glad Silva will get to rest and left the WC early unscathed (or, no worse than when he got there)

Yaya is quite obviously injured & still playing & we are paying for it.

The Ivory Coast manager said that Yaya was exhausted and hurting all over after the first match. Hopefully will persuade him to retire from international football after the World Cup so he misses the ACON

Great news. Give him a month off to do fuck all but sup cocktails by the pool with a couple of models. He'll come back raring to go after that

Not quite the same tho is it? Two/three more of football and fatigue and only reporting back right when the season is about to start.. Would you like to have "half-fit" Silva at the beginning of the season with the opening fixtures we have?

Compared to getting on hols mid-June but still gets a proper pre-season to build up fitness for the coming season.

What point are you trying to make there - and what assumptions are you making about my meaning? Im saying his four weeks off is because of the tournament, not injury. That website is implying it is the other way around.
