Too bad he didn't finish with "fortunately for the rags, FFP doesn't apply to them."

Quite interesting to hear Maureen come out with that. Usually any transfer comments are kept behind closed doors as it may start a tit-for-tat scenario, which VG said he'd speak with Maureen personally.

From reports, even though the fee was huge, it was mooted that his wage was not inline and would be considerably lower. 100-120 grand a week is also a huge fee for such a young lad and now he's made it we may not see him fulfil his full potential.

Shaw is a self-confessed Chelsea fan and it looks like his agent went to Maureen to see if they could equal or better the offer. Chelsea would not and instead of going to his 1st love, he chose a team who are not only outside the top 4 but still in a state of flux, trying to pull things back together. All for the coin, that's where Shaw's head is at.

What Maureen also said was that FFP is actually disadvantaging young English talent as the excessive prices are just not viable. Anybody with a bit of talent is being hoovered up at extautionate prices with only those exempt from FFP regulations (ie. those who made the rules up) able to afford them. So those of us outside of these limits will always struggle to cover the PL/FA bases and not be able to bring in those that we should be able to bring in, all because it's set out a certain way.

Maureen actually says a lot more about the state of our game than just the price of one player, he's putting the whole change since FFP into perspective.

It would have also been good if he had said that, as a mid-table team who didn't have CL football to look forward to, The Scum had now to pay over-inflated fees and wages in order to entice players to go to the Swampland in the first place.

A sort of Manchester United "premium".
