We wouldn't want anything obscuring that 20/20 hindsight would we?

For once there's none involved.
I don't pretend to have very good knowledge of our youth setups and don't watch much EDS games. But being a Swede, I obviously paid closer attention to Guidetti than to the other EDS players. And living in Holland, I could follow is loan tenure at Feyenoord pretty closely.
Amd to me it was glaringly obviously that he was toos low and sluggish from day one, which I'm sure I've brought up on here before,

How many youngsters let go over the years have come back to bite us? Genuine question. Sturridge comes to mind but not many others. We are the best side in the country and a growing european force so the standard required for any home grown talent to make it here is incredibly high. Hopefully all the investment put in to Patrick Vieira's part of the Club will bear fruit sooner rather than later.

You don't understand why people would want a home grown player to succeed rather than being pessimistic and slagging him off every time he had the ball? Strange.
That's not what I said at all. What I thought as weird was that so many on here thought Guidetti was the next big thing without having watched him play.
Yes, he scored a lot for Feyenoord, but he wasn't very dominant, and a lot of those goals were penalties. And the Dutch league is NOT a good test. ALvaro Alves anyone? He also did OK for a few games in the Swedish league, but give me a fucking break, That's like league one if not worse.
And he has't actully done that well in the EDS.
I would love forus to brring through some quality kids. I just never thought Johm would be one of them. ANd I think that people might have had too high hopes of him making it, because he was here too early. I seriously doubt that he would be talked about at all if he was a few years younger and had to compete with the talent that we now have, He simply isn't that good.
I think Guidetti had a chance previous to his injury. It looks as if that may have gone, but I would still like to see how he looks if he knocks a couple of goals in.
I watched him v Vertonghen & ok, Vertonghen is fucking shit, but he's an international who now plays in the Prem, & Guidetti, a kid playing in a foreign country, caused him nightmares.
He has always looked cumbersome & isn't lightning quick but he isn't dead slow either.
He's over anxious in this team as he knows his Prem career is about to disappear but I would still like to see if he looks as uncomfortable after a couple of goals. Guidetti is a real grafter but he can shoot with both feet, head the ball & beat a man.
I hope he gets one last chance on this trip.

Sturridge wasn't a choice, Chelsea were after him from the age of 15 and when he was made to earn his 1st team spot, well what more encouragement do you need to jump ship? Worked out well for him there didn't it?

I hate that Sturridge makes out he left City due to lack of opportunity, when he was a sicknote for ages, then got tapped up by Chelsea a good year before his contract ran out.
Everybody knew he was going, so why the fuck would we nurture him just to give Chelsea a better free product.

You could argue that Sturridge wasn't given enough encouragement here and fucked off as a result. Personally I think he's an arrogant prick but he's undoubtedly made it at a top Premiership Club.
