Lukaku - a real option for our attack or a flop?

This transfer was talked about, but failed to become real after he moved to Everton.
So, after Negredo left and Falcao went to shit, we like it or not, failed to buy someone to be next to Big Ed and sicknotes: Aguero and Jovetic.
The chances of us buying someone up front this winter are slim, we are not a big spending team in the winter window, but next summer, if we would have to get a big fella in, would Lukaku be a choice?
Yes or Nye?

I wouldn't like to give Everton 70-80 millions in the summer,BTW that deal includes Barkley who i really really want to sign.
So no from me.

No, he's not good enough for the very top level. His overall game isn't that great and he's not intelligent enough or able to hold up play particularly well. I honestly can't see him reaching the level of a Drogba, which is what he clearly aspires to be. Decent but an potential A* world class striker? Not in my book.

Where exactly was Lukaku to City ever talked about in the summer?
No to him by the way.
Barkley or more preferably Pogba in during the summer - we do need a striker in January though as having only 3, two of whom are serial sicknotes, isn't good. Ive heard Jay Rodriguez name muted and that's another No give he's nowhere near fit anyway. We do need a forward though, above all things, in January and we also need to ship Nastasic out of hes going to be picking his arse and not getting a game and Sinclair out as he simply never was and never will be good enough at the level we are competing at.

Well, as always, we were linked with him.
Him and other 87 players, but his name came up often.

No for me. I don't think he's ever gonna be world class.

Largely helped by the fact that he was a regular in the Belgian league and scored about 40 of them before he was 18... i know that's still impressive, but i don't think he's the monster of a player many thought he'd be by now considering he was seen as that prodigious that young. You think given his earlier exploits he'd be a star by now. Don't get me wrong - he's doing quite well at Everton but he's not doing any better than someone like Benteke potentially is he? I don't think he has that star quality that the very best show. He's got most in common with Huntelaar on that list imo. I expect he'll end up that kind of level. Very good but never top class.

He has to improve his intelligence, dribbling and first touch before he can become good enough for us.

Tbh i think he has to improve those before he is good enough for Everton.
Not a player I would like to see at City. Much rather give a lad like Lopez a go first. I'd even sooner see a 4-6-0 formation with a six of Silva, Nasri, Yaya, Navas, Milner and a Fern. Plenty of goals in that midfield if we ever had all our strikers unavailable

Mmmmm........with Silva operating as a false No. 9 ??

Silva, in that type of formation, could do whatever he fuckin likes for me. The space he would create would be silly and with intelligent runs from the others he would just control games as easily as he does now, if not more so. Not suggesting this as a way forward mind, just a preferred option to a Lukaku type of forward

I think maybe in the future, but not quite yet. He was great for West Brom and was on fire for Everton in the first half of last season but he seems to have plateaued a little since then and not really kicked on to the next level.
Still he's only young and all the raw attributes are there, pace, strength, aerial ability, power. Might not be the fanciest of footballers but then again neither is Dzeko or Drogba for that matter, if he can play to his strengths I see no reason why he can't make it to the very top.

Sorry if my comment came over as sounding a bit deprecating.
I thought your suggestion was quite interesting and I've been pondering it since I read it,

Absolutely no offence taken mate. Football is all about opinions which do differ. Often there is no 'correct' solution. Especially where players and formations are involved. Though I would not be happy to see Lukaku, it doesn't mean others think differently. Or that he would be a success.
Plenty of players I've not been happy at signing have gone on to be brilliant. Bellamy and Goater to name two. There will be many others. Or players who have not been as good as hoped. Adebayor and Elano are two prime examples

I just think that if Lukaku was 'good enough', he would still be at Chelsea and they wouldn't have off-loaded him.
He needs to work very, very hard to correct his deficient technique, if that is at all possible.
I could see him eventually ending up at somewhere like West Ham, if Big Fat Sam were still around.

One thing for sure is that he's got the physical attributes to make it. Mourinho though isn't a bad judge of a player and it would appear that he didn't make any effort to keep him despite his striker shortage.
Is he for us? Not in my book. He needs a supportive environment, good coaching and lots of game time to give him the chance to improve. He would get the first two with us but he's not yet good enough to warrant the third.
Could he make it big? IMO he has a chance. He's at the perfect club to get that chance.
