I was there too, funny day.
3 hat tricks
4-0 at HT
kippax singing we want 10 when we went 4-0 up, just to take the piss.
The kippax doing a conga
the kippax giving the huddersfield goal the biggest cheer of the night when the scored to make it 9-1.
That kit that huddersfield wore was shocking.

I remember the excitement of that night & one or two other hammerings dished out by that team, & of course the usual happened; a team from the 'Big Five' came along & took away the main, talismanic player, who was never the same again.

But there were some talented homegrown players in that team & it's a different feeling seeing one of those score a hat trick, than a big signing. Then the rags stepped in & took all the next generations, but I hope we get that feeling again, at a higher level, in the years to come.

Being born in Huddersfield, this was a fantastic day and one which I will always remember. School the following week was just brilliant. Does anyone remember the interview after the game with Malcom MacDonald, their manager? Never to this day have I seen a manager more shellshocked and lost for words

Here are the highlights and interview (around the 30 minute mark)-

That voice.

Martin Tyler. Before his brainwashing. Seems to be on plenty of City games of that era, probably did the NW job & began the first sparks of his love affair with rags & Liverpool.

I was at that other game away right behind the goal when Clive Wilson scored. For some reason I had it in my head that Graham Baker scored in that one.

I disagree , I thought SuperMac actually handled it very well , with sporting, wry humour, great eloquence , and above all, FAR more dignity than the world has come to expect from certain other football manager we could all mention. Class act.

"All we are singing, is give us a goal" when we were 8 or 9-0 up . Surreal day.

Blood and sand, you must have been stood right next to me. Was that the evening it poured with rain and everyone was steaming from the shoulders up?

The 10-1 was amazing. We talked about getting ten at half time and concluded that it would probably end up being about 4 or 5-2. I was down the bottom of the Kippax, North Stand end, near the corner, by the bottom left pillar of the Kippax. A great view of Whitey's third and our tenth goal.

The Huddersfield fans were great, I thought.

As I've mentioned on here many times before it was my first ever City game but. ....... as a Town fan in the away end. Like Craig I am a Huddersfield lad and at 13 you get taken to you're home towns games by your Dad. This was my first away game and it was the match that changed my life as a football fan. I remember each goal going in and by the time we had scored 8 the away fans were joining in doing the Conga and the banter between the fans was brilliant. Hairs stood up on my neck watching something I would never see if my Dad persisted in taking me to watch Town.

Luckily for me there were two older lads in my village who were passionate Cit fans and on seeing my joy at that game they took me under their wings and started taking me to Maine Road. I have never looked back since.

Ha ha my anniversary of being a CITY fan!!!!!

Was that not Oldham or some such Hellhole ?

Thought the Huddersfield away was daytime ? ( But as I thought Baker scored & he doesn't even seem to be in the picture, I could easily be wrong!)

You dont mean the oldham away game stood in the uncovered away end with it pissing down. Mud covering the ankles and we were being hammered. Half the blues left at half time.

I can remember several horrible, wet occasions & have the feeling more than one was at Oldham. I can remember being there & being literally saturated with rain; as it landed, so it went straight through to the inside, ran down inside my clothes into my boots & pissed back out the top & through the laces.

The really wet one at Boundary Park was December 84. I remember I had flu but when you are 14 you are strong enough to get away with anything. Gordon Smith scored the second I remember that as well. It was on match of the Day.

There was one at Huddersfield as well, maybe a year or two after that, that big open end at Leeds Road, Wednesday night match. I am sure that is the one Jive Wilson scored in when you could see the steam coming off the City fans. Was it in the Cup? A replay maybe?

There used to be a really good chippy on the way out of Huddersfield as well. It had closed down last time I went to the McAlpine in the Frank Clark era.

Didn't Malcom MacDonald come out with " At least four of their goals were offside" or something in his after match interview ? Absolute classic lol

This game was a 2-0 on a Saturday in Jan & there was a 3-1 night match previous which I was also at (& Baker scored apparently !) The FA Cup games were later, same season as the 10-1.

Don't think I was at the away game.

Found Bluemoon has details.

Nice one, Ted. I remember the away F.A. Cup game. Ian Brightwell scored the first and John Gidman scored a free-kick in the last minute and it went absolutely fucking mental.

That 3-1 might be the one I am thinking of. Did Clive Wilson score?

No, but Graham Baker did ;)

Kinsey & Lomax according to BM (had forgotton all about him)

According to BM Wilson wasn't playing in the FAC games so possibly you are blurring them together as I have done.

So he didn't appear the slightest bit shellshocked to you? I know people see games differently, it's obviously spread to interviews now too.

I was sat in the main stand for the 10-1. Crazy game, we were outplayed up until McNab opened the scoring - if ever a goal changed a game!

The game I think Tokyo is referring to was in the same season in January an FA Cup 3rd rnd 2nd replay at their place on a monday night. I went to that one as well - it was open terracing and it pissed down with rain, we won 3-0.

It all kicked off at half time, I think the hudders fans fought amongst themselves or with police. Then after the game on this incredibly muddy car park it all went a bit silly again.

...nowhere near as shellshocked as Whiskey & his players after the 5-1
