Liverpool are making a stand on high Ticket Prices

Looks like the scousers have decided to make a stand against the club regarding ticket prices, they are not taking Flags/banners into the Kop until the club engage the fans groups with dialogue over the inflationary ticket prices. This is a bold move IMO as they rely on the fans massively for their big European nights, and they have a massive game coming up next week where the club will want every one of them up for it, however, good on them for making the stand. Ticket prices is something that needs to be looked at across the country, its getting stupid.

Glad I read all of that before commenting on the typical scouser who prefers the Torpedo approach to the Turnstile.

Looks as though we can expect a load of candlelight vigils to be held..........and the irony of all this is that, at the end of the day, it isn't their fault........

..........or maybe it is.

Good on them, but like is mentioned in that thread, it really needs more than one clubs fans to take a stand. Its a shame that a group like FSF who claim to represent supporters can't mobilise some support in this area across a broad spectrum of clubs, but I can also see why many fans would feel action such as boycotting merchandise would directly harm their club and be reluctant.

It's ultimately going to just boil down to the question of what is the breaking point at which a critical mass simply can't afford to go any more, by which time football clubs will be responsible for poverty amongst families of die hard supporters who will cling on to their live football experience to the detriment of all else - the clubs pricing policies (and knowing that the die hards will keep going regardless) is not much more socially responsible than bookies cynically profiting from gambling addicts.

I have kept an eye on this and it seems that the Liverpool owners have stuck two fingers up to the fan group Spirit of Shankley who were representing the fans in ticket price discussions. Here is their latest post just released:

Statement following the conclusion of the Ticket Working Group from representatives of Spirit Of Shankly, LFC Supporters Committee and Spion Kop 1906.

On Saturday 30 January representatives of all three supporters groups that make up the Ticket Working Group, met with LFC for the last time following 13 months of discussion about ticket prices and accessibility. The club presented their final proposal and plan to announce next-season’s prices for the entire stadium this week.

The outcome is extremely disappointing and a missed opportunity for LFC to lead in a fairer approach to ticket prices. After months of time and effort, meetings and debate of ideas and plans to lower supporters’ costs, the owners have chosen to increase prices for many. In the context of the huge income rises the club will receive next year, to up their revenue from fans through season and matchday tickets is both unnecessary and morally unjustifiable.

At a time of ever increasing commercial and media revenues, the club’s reliance on ‘general-admission’ returns is diminishing, and this is a lost opportunity for LFC to begin the reversal of the effects of inflation-busting prices that have forced out many loyal fans over recent years. We had hoped to find a solution to better accessibility to Anfield for younger and future generations through reduced ticket prices.

We began our engagement with the club in a spirit of cooperation and a willingness to compromise. To give the process the best chance of success we presented ideas and agreed to their requests for confidentiality, agreeing a Terms of Reference by which we have abided.

Our proposals going into the negotiation were as follows:

1. At least 70% of the ground to be paying an affordable price (£30 in our view);
2. An end to match categorisation and;
3. Increases in the number of young supporters inside Anfield.

We believe it is right and fair to lower ticket prices in order to sustain our support and subsequently the atmosphere inside Anfield.

Unfortunately, the decisions of the ownership are based purely on economics with no compromise. They have tried to frame the debate from the view that ticket prices as they stand are fair and that their planned rises somehow supports this fairness. This is an unsustainable argument being put by the owners. Fairness is not making more money than ever before from supporters.

There will be some new initiatives, but the major issues of ticket cost and categorisation remain unresolved, unappreciated by the owners and a further setback for loyal supporters trying to afford to watch their team play.

We will make further detailed comment once the new prices are released in the coming days.

So it looks like Liverpool are going to hike the prices and go all corporate for the new extended part of Anfield. Just when the new TV money is arriving, not great timing by the greedy owners.

I know some will get pleasure out of this because its Liverpool, however, I think this is a problem across football and have for some time. The rising cost of games across the country is getting stupid, this season should have seen a ticket price reduction across the board. I hope our club doesn't increase our prices this season, its hard enough to sell out now!

Come on people Liverpool fans are fucking deluded but £70 notes for a ticket IS taking the absolute piss.

Our seasoncards are up for renewal in the coming months,lets see what happens there i suspect the standard 10% rise.

Hospitality seems to be where the money is at now, I went to the Crystal Palace game the other week and got the Legends experience for £99 + VAT, I rang up yesterday to get the same package for the West Brom game and it's gone up to £150 + VAT for the same category game?

Arsenal is £350 + VAT, think I will stump for this one though as it's Peller's last home game, let's give him a good send off!!
