very good read that, and the press are slowly coming round even if they are all still dreaming of the scum getting back to where "they belong".

Very good interview, inspiring really in that it really is shoving the bullshit back down the throats of those who said City wasn't sustainable.

And is this the first time we've had it officially confirmed that Paddy is in line to be manager in the future?

From reports from a relative who works with Vieira and the first team squad, and having visited and met him around the place as well, I can testify that what is said about Vieira is completely true. He's a guy who truly stands out in terms of humility, friendliness and respect, whether you are a visitor, the tea lady or the highest paid footballer in the world, and he is so universally liked and respected, the whole club are rooting for him to be successful with the kids so he can progress up the ladder

It's rare we hear from the leatherfaced hero.

But when we do, It is usually sensible & enlightening.

He has done a great job so far, which will hopefully pay off in the future.

The Vieira situation is interesting.

Reading between the lines, I think it kinda confirms that he's not gonna be the next manager unless Pellegrini sticks around for another 3 years or so.

So if it was, for example Guardiola and he does say 3/4 years, that would be something like a 7 or 8 year apprenticeship with the EDS which would need him to be remarkably patient in view of the fact he would doubtless have other offers in the meantime.

He could be given the assistant's job to Guardiola, if Pep is deffo on the agenda.

But it may be that the plan is several more years of the Count, followed by Vieira & the rest is all bollocks. Marwood doesn't give the impression that any failure in Europe is seen as a crisis, contrary to media reports, so they may think things are going fine.

Thanks for posting the link, I really enjoyed that. It sounds like we're a club where any aspiring youngster would want to come and play. If you've got it, we'll bring it out of you. Exciting times ahead, that's for sure.

What a legacy as well. Possibly why the rags are spending vast sums. They need to just to try and keep up. Arsenal are now just a spot in the rear view mirror, as are the dippers and we've now overtaken Chelsea. Good times indeed

I think one word that Spartacus used in his first post in this thread summed it up perfectly; "inspiring".

One element which was very pleasing is that 70% of the under 18s are English.

In the years to come, the backbone of the England team might well be 'reared' in City's Academy and that could mean that, at long last, the national side would be playing 'proper' football.

Very inspiring indeed, on so many different levels.

Just another thought; City have spent £150 million on the Academy/Training complex, which is the same as Butthead has spent in his first transfer window 'splurge' to half-build an indifferent team.

On a purely value for money basis, there's no comparison between the two set of outlays, especially when the Academy starts producing a conveyor belt of talent, hopefully worthy of first team consideration.

Even those players who don't make it with City could fetch healthy transfer fees, which would help defray the overall setting-up costs of the entire system.

One very important thing to note from that interview, is Marwood's stated ambition for the academy quota.

There has been a lot of discussion in passing, regarding players emerging from the academy, some people of the view that it's all for show, others that we will be lucky if we get one or two.

'We’ve always had an ambition that at least four to six players in the team would come through this Academy. In the team. It’s an ambitious target. We are working every day to achieve that.”

Notice 'in the team' said twice.

So it's not a slip of the tongue meaning 'squad players'. They are genuinely targeting half the team being made up of academy players.

To be even thinking of that, they must have a hope that there are enough players at the club with sufficient talent, that it could become a reality. I think they are probably right.

I also liked one of the cleaners saying it took a man from the desert to improve the area. In fairness Henry Winter is one of the few journalists who gives us our fair due for the academy revolution. Tuesday is another major milestone in the future of this Club.

The Academy is generating good publicity on BBC Breakfast Time this morning.

Even the most bitter axe-grinding tabloid tosspot would have a hard time trying to spin it as negative - I think those ones will mostly ignore it and wait for something else they can have a go at us for.

You obviously haven't read the papers today - say Jamie Jackson in the Guardian:
New £200m (that's inflation for you) academy leaves club with no excuses;
Since 2008, not one English player developed by the club had stated in the Premier League;
Mention about getting knocked out of CL if we don't beat Roma;
Corridor shows time line of each academy graduate who made it to the first team, "but not Ched Evans, the convicted rapist".

Seen similar pieces elsewhere with facts intertwined with bile. About time we started banning a few journalists
