This is the new, albeit desperate mantra.

All previous criticisms have failed or have been exposed as fallacious, so this is the 'fall-back', rearguard position.

Have to give Johnny Giles his due here, Brady was full of "with the money spent" blah blah but when the presenter on RTE asked Giles if City were buying success he answered that they all buy success, they all spend money to win trophies.

Reminds me of all the wags in the press shouting "you cant buy success" in 2008 when Sheikh Mansour took over. By 2012 this had suddenly altered to " oh well, you've just bought success" - from the very same people who told us that you cant buy it as well.

Same thing will happen in the CL. Apparently we are the only team out there who has ever spent money - odd that, given the euro bigwigs we're circle jerking over the Barca v PSG tie, with 3 of the four goals scored by academy products Zlatan, Neymar and Suarez - all of them "youth system" products playing for free and the love of the game only.

Considering we are pants at the CL, we seem to have qualified for the knock-out stages 2 years in a row. Ah well, Im sure we can find new ways to piss everybody off if we manage to go even further - lets have a laugh and give it a try.
