City v Burnley Boxing Day 19?? - fogged off

Someone help me out here.

I remember Burnley as a top division club. They were in the first division in my early years and had won the title before my memories kick in. The policy of selling players like Ralph Coates and Leighton James (amd many others) finally caught up with them and they eveutually went down for a very long time.

But I have this memory of looking forward to my uncle taking me to Maine Road on Boxing Day (I think) to see them play Burnley. It might have been 1969 but I'm not sure. t's not easy to search as it became a non-existent match.

As we drove down through Oldham the fog was so thick you could barely even drive and the radio announced the cancellation - this was at the time of the introduction of smokeless zones and not too long after killer smogs in the cities.

Anyone help me out with this date - or has my child's mind just re-arranged things, as is known to happen?

One of my own early memories of a game being called off at Maine road due to fog was approx 1972 , I seem to think it was v chelsea ! Not sure if this was during xmas period though. (Probably 1 of my first games ,remember being on the bus to the ground when we got the postponement) , also travelled all the way to notts Forest in the fa cup to find the game postponed for snow.

I was on my way to Nottingham that day. My first ever away game. It was rearranged for midweek. I was shocked by what a shithole The City Ground was.
I also have a vague recollection of a game v Sunderland being called off because of slightly breezy weather. Soft lads.
