De Gayer is the best goalie in the prem. It's not a crazy position. if we had him we'd be top of the league right now. Sorry to get all Herbalistic about it, but he's miles better than dandruff boy.

cheers

De Gay is the best player in the whole league?

What a way to un do some great analysis throughout the season.

A very good goalkeeper - one of the best in the league. But better than every other footballer in it?

Stupid fucking thing to say

That's what I thought ! Ratboy,s analysis is bang on more often that not but on this occasion his loyalty to the rags has got the better of him and made him look a proper cunt bless him . De Gea best keeper in the Premier League nobody could argue with but BEST PLAYER ???? fuck right off lol . As for Carragher , naming Sergio is high praise indeed from him . I don't usually pay any interest in the bollocks polls sky do and I know City fans by and large boycott them but this one is interesting so thought why not post it on here .

This is why the best player awards are always stupid - de Gea is much better in net than Sergio, so which is the better player? Basically, it's always attackers who are judged to be the best players, as if the awards are thought up by 10 year olds

The awards are stupid indeed. Designed just to get people talking (a bit like talkshite talking shite to try and generate phone calls).

However in a recent derby match Sergio tried to score and deGea tried to stop him. The best player came out on top.

Not sure how Hazard hasn't been mentioned yet.

I can't stand Chelsea but watch every game just to see Hazard play.

Amazing player and if he wasn't in the league, Aguero would be a country mile better than everyone else.

Not sure why people see it as such a big issue.

Both players have single handedly dragged their teams to several wins this year, one by scoring, one by keeping his team in games they dont deserve to be in, and thus if talking about an influential player, they both deserve to be spoken about as the top players in the league.

Hate to be the voice of the strikers Union, but attackers win you games hence why they win awards.

Yes others are inportant, but until they change the rules the way you win games is sticking that ball inside that net. Simple.

Do you not think that's an over simplistification?

If you have a team where you deserved to lose at least 4 or 5 out of your last 7 games, but have won 6 and drawn 1 almost exclusively because of the performances of your goalkeeper, and utter dross defending from the opposition, (eg no talent required to score the goals) surely goalkeepers also win you games?

Agree with this assessment

In the simplest analysis, players who score goals win games. Goalkeepers can only win a point because if nobody scores you can't win and the best you can hope for is a draw.

That said, football is a TEAM game and all eleven players contribute, some more than others, but without the collective the individual is largely redundant.

Individual honours are all well and good but for me, they are largely ignored as I support my club and all the players involved. We have probably the best forward in the league and the rags have arguably the best goalkeeper in DeGea. So what? We'll see in May who has had the better season

Every former player says the hardest thing to do is put the ball in the net and admit that's why forwards are paid the most money.

I'm in the "strikers Union" camp here with PBL and I do like a bit of over-simplification, now and then.

If you haven't got forwards to score your goals, all that a great 'keeper, or defence for that matter, will give you is the one point per game you kicked off with, when you can only draw it.

In my 'jaundiced' opinion, for what it's worth, a side can always get by with an indifferent, patched up defence and a pretty average 'keeper, if you've got a great attack to carry away all before you. It's goal scorers that win matches.

With regard to De Gea, however, I don't think he's even the best goalkeeper in the League; I much prefer Curtois.
