It has been confirmed that City’s FA Cup fourth round clash with Middlesbrough will take place at 3pm on Saturday 24 January.

This, the eighth FA Cup meeting with the Teessiders, has not been selected for TV coverage.

The teams last met in the FA Cup in 2010, when Benjani's 45th-minute goal was enough to give Roberto Mancini's side a narrow 1-0 victory - Boro winger Adam Johnson joined the Blues not long after the tie.

Before that, the last league encounter between City and Middlesbrough ended with the same scoreline in February 2009 when Craig Bellamy scored the 51st minute winner.

In February 1997, Middlesbrough recorded a 1-0 win the FA Cup fifth round at Maine Road - their eight successive win over City in all competitions.

In fact the Blues won just one of the next 12 league meetings between the clubs to make it one win in 20 meetings between 1983 and 2007 - an incredible record for the Boro.

Previous FA Cup clashes include a third round 2-1 win for Middlesbrough at Ayresome Park in 1992 and in 1972 the teams drew 1-1 at Maine Road before Boro won the replay 1-0 on Teesside.

The first meeting between the clubs was 111 years ago in 1904 with the teams drawing 0-0 at Hyde Road before City triumphed 3-1 in the return - on the way to winning the FA Cup for the first time.

Ticket details will be released in due course.

My first ever game was v Boro back in 83. They scored aftet 15 seconds! Tolmie and Parlane scored to give us the win. Loved every second from the first glimpse of the floodlights to getting the pink from the van outside the main stand after the game

Looks like they're waiting for the 'Upset' game to show on TV.

Are the Rags being shown as I haven't seen much of them on TV over the festive period?

*rolls eyes*

Of course the Rags FA Cup tie will be live - it always is. Apparently its over 10 years since they had an FA Cup tie not televised live; doesn't matter who they draw, the media agenda to push them in to the spotlight continues unabated.
