He has looked short of energy when he's tried to do the centre mid role to me. As if he starts the game thinking he's Colin Bell then halfway through, his legs have gone & he needs a breather. He can get that out wide, but in centre mid he has to be moving all the time.

Probably get used to the pace if he played there all the time, but he wasn't very effective v Barca. Different team with Fernandinho in there.

Like Alonso does and Busquetes do a load of running !, The ball never gets tired Ted, it is a fact that if you can control the ball you do less running. Messi came to life in Bursts, The top players do it in between rests, We lack poise park along with a back 4 and a keeper that a average on the ball at best, so the pressure mounts the running increases, We have a panic issue in the big games,I hope to fuck it does not show itself again this Sunday or it is a car crash season. Solid start cashi in if and when you can, 1st rule is be tight and let the ability take over, which is what Barca did in the we trust our game do you game the other night. We got into it via chaos closing down, is that what we pay 5/6 mil a year for, where was the 180 min plan, in the fucking bin after 45 mins.

Barca do lots of running. Hard running, when they lose the ball. We don't. We are supposed to. Milner did a lot of pointless running & had nothing left when needed. Once he got back to his usual job, he did it right, wheras Nasri wasn't doing. Fernandinho did Milner's role better & we played better.

If Clichy hadn't fucked up, we may have drawn or won that game. But someone fucks up badly in almost every big European game we play, going all the way back to Richrd Dunne.

If we could get 11 players to actually carry out a manager's instructions without doing something fucking stupid, we would knock one of these teams out.

Don't see anything wrong in anything you've said there. What I would add to the last line though is, it works both ways. If we could get the manager to pick the correct people in the positions to carry out his instructions, at the start of the game, rather than halfway through.

Nasri was many people's motm in the game previous to this & v Roma. You are more likely to trust him than to leave him out.

My point in the matchday thread, is that it has now been pretty much proven that you can't trust any of them in Europe.

He played there not so long ago & was cack.

But I'm sure he would be a lot better if he played there every week.

He said he prefers to play as an attacking central Midfielder and TBH I think he would be really effective in that role and should be given a run in it, with Nasri one side and Silva the other. Yaya and Dinho behind him and Aguero in front. Maybe hold an audition for the scousers on Sunday!!

One thing I am 100% certain of is, next season this place will be full of "we are missing Milner" threads, because he is pone of our better players, versatile and has the best engine on the pitch. Plus he is 100% professional on and off the pitch, he trains hard and is a credit to the club. Not many players who you can say that about these days.

I am sure of it and yes he is.

However he isn't signing and him saying anything else is disingenuous. He'll still get games if he said he was leaving, but now he wants to be seen as the direct replacement for Gerrard.

I'd have no problem with him playing there in any game, so long as we switch it quickly if it's shite.

I wish Micah wouldn't get drawn in to these things, like it's hardly worked for him........

Exclusive - Richards tells Arsenal and Liverpool target: Move abroad could further your career

Micah Richards has told Manchester City teammate James Milner to consider a move abroad this summer.

The England midfielder, whose contract expires at the end of the season, has been linked with a switch to AC Milan, Juventus and Roma, while Premier League pair Arsenal and Liverpool are also reportedly interested in his services.

And Richards, who is currently on loan at Serie A side Fiorentina, claims a move to the continent could do wonders for the 29-year-old.

“Players should definitely consider moving abroad,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show. “It all comes down to what club wants you.

“James Milner is up there with the top midfielders in the world. A lot of people say he’s not amazing at one particular thing but he never lets the team down and Man City are a better team when he plays.

“If the likes of Barcelona, Atletico Madird and Real Madrid or Juventus and Roma in Serie A want you, then I don’t see why not.

“Juve have got some of the best players in the world at the moment. Everyone wants to better themselves in their career.

“Milner is someone who is too good to be sitting on the bench. He deserves to be playing in the starting 11 somewhere. That will be one of the key factors in his decision.”

When Milner is standing out as a player we are worried about losing. It proves the rest are not performing well enough.

Milner at his best, should be struggling to get in this team, not starring in it.

disagree Ted, Milner is a quality player, he is not a specialist which is his downfall, but if you have someone of Milners quality than clan play anywhere on the pitch, he gives you much more than Navas who has 1 job. We will miss Jimmy.

Just because it's cropped up again on another thread; talk about Milner not getting games being a reason for not signing, is bollocks.

Just an example of big games Milner started this season: Arsenal h, Arsenal a, Chelsea a, Chelsea h, Spurs h, Bayern Munich h, Swampdwellers h, Roma a, Barca h & he was on after an hour in Munich.

If he goes, it's not because he isn't playing.

Sky recently said that only Navas has more minutes on the pitch this season than Milner, I was shocked at that, but it goes to show how injuries and the stupid rotation policy has fucked us up.

I didn't say he wasn't a quality player, but a side at City's level should not need Milner.

I recon Barca, Real Madrid & Bayern would manage to win stuff without him & if all of our talented players were putting it in, we would too.

And that fits in with the post above, that Navas & Milner both feature heavilly. we need them because the others are not doing it.

I disagree, I think Milner has it in him to play alongside the best, he has a brilliant engine, is strong as an ox, has a good pass and can take a free kick too. Has the nous to play in any position. IMO any team would be daft not to want a Milner.

His passing & his brain isn't sharp enough or good enough. It's his running allied to being a decent player which is required. If the others ran about, we wouldn't need him. Barca etc don't need such a player because their team puts in an extra bit each, to make up for it. If every player puts in about 5% more, it adds up to Milner.

Agree 100 %
"I used to be 6 foot 2 with curly hair, look what it's done to me"

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."
