Danny Ings

He is out of contract in the summer. English, could be good. No one would shed too many tears if Dzeko or Jovetic moved on, so this is a realistic possibility? I see our English player situation as starting to get critical.

Danny Ings is a transfer target for Tottenham but the club could face competition from Manchester City for his signature.

The Burnley forward is out of contract in the summer and has no plans to sign a new one. That makes Burnley vulnerable to a knockdown offer during this month’s transfer window, although both Ings, 22, and his club insist he will remain at Turf Moor for the rest of the season.

Standard Sport understands that Paul Mitchell, Tottenham’s recently-appointed head of recruitment and analysis, is a long-time admirer of Ings and was keen to bring him to Southampton before he left the south coast for White Hart Lane.

Ings impressed in Burnley’s 2-1 defeat at White Hart Lane last month and has been high on the club’s list of possible recruits since, although it is believed City are also following the situation. History suggests that if the champions were to pursue Ings seriously, Spurs would struggle to win that race, although it remains to be seen how serious their interest is.

At this stage, a January bid is not certain as Tottenham need to move on at least one of Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado before they can provide head coach Mauricio Pochettino with another forward. Adebayor has interest from Qatar and the United States and has 18 months remaining on his contract.

If Ings leaves in the summer, Burnley would be entitled only to compensation for a player whose reputation has grown quickly this term. Yet selling him now would deprive boss Sean Dyche of one of his best players and place Burnley at greater risk of relegation, denying them the financial benefits of a second season in the Premier League.

Should Burnley have a change of heart and opt to sell this month, they may emphasise City’s interest in talks with interested clubs, as a way of negotiating a better deal.

The last paragraph says everything. Nothing is likely before the Summer unless Burnley have given up on the Premier League which I very much doubt. Spurs are already rumoured to be looking abroad. If Bony comes which I expect he will we're far more likely to go for the Nigerian kid and shift Jovetic. Not for me. There are other ways of increasing home grown numbers which make more sense eg Denayer Lopes and Barker.

I have to say, I quite like him. Very decent footballer.

May never be good enough to challenge for a starting spot at City, mind, but could be useful as option no. 3 or 4, if our people are not comfortable trusting the kids. He'll be 23 in July, is English, shouldn't demand too high a wage and no transfer fee. I can see why we would 'monitor' his situation, even if we decide against him in the end.

It's funny how you'll get lots of 'maybe under Pearce' type of comments, but if he tears it up next season for a mid-table team, we'll be looking at an obligatory £20m and the same people will ask why we never look for 'the bloke Atletico sign for a pittance to replace Torres/Aguero/Falcao/Costa'.

The guys who Atleti etc sign are usually something which looks special though. Ings has about 30 goals in 100+ games for Burnley. It's hardly Aguero potential is it ?

Atletico would sign someone like that Dybala fella from Palermo - an exceptional talent (Dybala is fucking great btw. We should be looking at him if we aren't)... Or even someone like Iheanacho. Not Danny Ings, functional and effective Burnley forward.

Of course not, but neither was Costa looking at his record. And he's no Charlie Austin, that's for sure!

Since when does Athleti fish in the English waters for some kid who scores occasionally? A: Never. They sign the kid from a Portugeezer side whom was brought over due to his inability to play anywhere except Portugal or Russia due to ownership or Visa issues, and that's the pipeline.

Which sounds like it will end soon, thereby making everything "equal" again, which kind of explains both our scouting, and CFG activities. You'd expect us to buy an Argie club tho soon or a Columbian club or something.

cheers

I saw somewhere that we were looking to exploit the end of the UEFA ban on third party ownership which has been exploited by Portugues clubs. One route suggested was to buy a Portuguese Club ourselves in order to funnel through talent being unearthed by our growing presence in Latin America. A French Club might help with African players in the same way. That way you get these guys EU passports. Don't know how easy that would be within UEFA rules. Buy, loan then play or sell.

Ings as a squad player I could see why and Not a chance, Clubs do get rough diamonds, AM and Dortmund to name 2, we also gave 18/19 mill and 150,000 grand a week to a Blackburn sick note. The dream is to play at the top level for a top team is Ings good enough, No not yet, but he could be, Is Lukako justifying the 50 mill deal for the toffees, players like Ings, Kane are bright players with good brains, give em the right support. Benzema was a big fish in a small pond at Lyon, he is now World Class and happy to be second or third fiddle at RM. Isco has gone to another level from his Malaga days, when he looked lost at Madrid for 12 months Pellers could do that.
