Set-pieces

We must have the worst conversion rate from Corners and Free-kicks. Do we even put in a minute's worth of effort for them in the training ground? We earn dozens of corners due to the way Navas plays and we DONOT convert even one of them. This happens every time a team parks the bus against us. Our free-kicks are indirect bullshit as well. Why not lob the ball in the box to one of our physically strong players instead of pass-pass-pass-corner-lose the ball?

Chelski win many many tight games due to their set-pieces. Look at the number of goals Terry has. Rags in the 2012-13 also won a huge number of games due to set-pieces. Simply scoring set-pieces would make beating defensive teams much easier and gives us a chance when our attacking players are playing poorly.

Someone recently posted he heard/saw a stat somewhere it was around 130 corners since we last scored from one.
I first laughed at it thinking it must be too high.

But the last goal from corner that I can remember is the MDM goal away at arse. that was 27 games ago. averaging 5 corners per game that takes us to over 130.

statistically a goal is scored from every tenth corner iirc so I think Manuel should give this one a thought?

Fucking hell that's shocking if true

Another danger is how a shit corner simply hands the initiative back to the rivals to counter-attack. IIRC, Stoke scored from a counter-attack from a shit corner.

I don't think Pelle gives any thought to set-pieces at all. How often have we tried to pass a free kick into the net even if it never works? Criminal negligence.

We scored 13 league goals last season from corners, more than any other side. The fall off is disappointing but the reasons are unlikely to be as simple as "not practicing."

The 1 goal per 10 corners stat is totally wrong, research from 2011 came up with a figure of 1 goal from a corner per 10 GAMES played, the same research measured the corner success ratio of Prem teams as 1 in 45. A run of 130 suddenly seems less significant...

Perhaps if we got Big Fat Sam in. we'd defend set pieces better and score more from our own

i think this is very much in part why we signed bony.

on both ends.

the marking during giroud's headed goal was poor.

any speculation as to why we could go from so successful last season to so poor this?

i agree that i doubt it is that we are not practicing them.

for me? the delivery of corners has been inconsistent.

nasri is better on the right, and while silva should be good at it, for some reason on feel he too often sends a weak one to the near post that is too easily dealt with by the opposition. in fairness, nasri has not been as good at his delivery this season either.

We don't have a single player in the squad who can take corners. How we can have 16 corners in a game and only threaten from the last one (where Kompany had a header) is beyond me. Needs sorting ASAP

we had another 16 corners yesterday and never looked a threat from any of them

Less than not a threat. An opportunity for them to break at pace.

Queer stuff. And I mean totally odd.

You'd think in a match like that the Count would have been more dedesperate. I get that he wants to have faith and trust is a huge issue psychologically but I think certain players don't fear anything.

Milner should be sold ASAP IMHO since he won't sign his deal.

Agreed, he needs to indicate his intentions to leave now or he signs, at least we can get a semi decent fee for him if he gets sold in January
