Liverpool and Manchester United were just two Premier League clubs who sold more replica jerseys in Dublin than in their own cities last year.

It has been an age-old football debate – where are your team’s supporters actually from and should football fans be doing more to support their local football clubs?

While League of Ireland clubs are struggling to stay afloat, Irish football fans are splashing their cash on replica jerseys for foreign football teams with Liverpool, Manchester United and, interestingly, Aston Villa proving the most popular kit of choice for those in the capital.

Sports Direct assessed the figures from eight Premier League clubs last season - Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham.

No baring on where they are actually sold overall. City Utd etc will sell most of theirs through other outlets such as the clubs themselves.

Ireland don't have a PL team or even a lower league one.

So this is the figures from 1 sports shop basically?

As Im an old fat bastard I don't buy replica shirts and haven't for 20 odd years, but for my sons and daughters we always buy from the club directly rather than a place like Sports Direct; Id assume a high percentage of fans of most clubs do the same?? Obviously that's more expensive to do if you live in Dublin or overseas but Id expect the largest percentage to be from club shops directly.

Im sure Utd's biggest location of sale is all the fake ones that are sold/worn in the far east.

I see the Sky 4 sell a goodly portion of shirts in Norwich. Six-fingered fuckers.

Sports Direct are the biggest sports retailer in the country so that stats are of interest. I take your point about club shops but these things are never aimed at regular fans who attend the games / live in Manchester. The casual 'fan' is where the money is.

20% of our sales in SD were in Scotland which is probably why we went there in the summer.

There is no sports direct in ireland so not sure where there dublin figures come from, there is a sportsworld which is basically an irish company buying ashleys stuff and selling it on for much more expensive.

Anyway thats besides the point, wouldnt take a genius to work out that Rags and Liverpool biggest selling jerseys here, Celtic are usually there or thereabouts and then GAA jerseys(dublin), rest just make up the minority, even the national jersey doesnt do too great(outside of major tournaments).

12.6% were in Fijnaart Netherlands & the rags only 4% the rest zero. What does that tell us ?

It means nothing its just one retailers slant on things, I would like to know where the online sales from the club shop go worldwide?

Well i agree that is just a nothing article but the sad thing is that others take the info and then put a fookin lazy or "alternative" slant on it....................

A study has revealed that Manchester United have won the battle over their rivals Manchester City in local shirt sales.Figures released by Sports Direct have shown that almost 95% of shirts sold in Manchester are United red, while only 5.43% are City.

Perhaps, you silly bint that is because 95% of City fans buy from the club opposed the 95% of plastic rags go to Sports Direct like proper chavs they are...............

It tells a lot about what we have to deal with over here though, supporter-wise.
A lot of people buy online from them. I have bought from them but always get City merchandise directly from MCFC.

Doesn't represent anything more than one shitty outlet. Folks from Manchester are more likely to get they're city strip from the City Store based on the fact sports direct don't stock it straight away. Also there are NO city tops in sport direct in Bradford, keighley or skipton which are my three closest stores.
