According to Twitter sources including NewYorkCityWatch, New York City have reportedly received Manchester City Elite Development System (EDS) player Shay Facey on loan for their inaugural season. A successful member of the Manchester City reserves that can play as a center back or a right back, Facey provides depth for the backline.

Facey appeared in the preseason video New York City displayed on their Twitter account around the 16th second (he is on the far left) and has apparently been training since in last Friday. After initial expectations that there would be up to four Manchester City academy players sent on loan to New York, it was more recently reported on ESPN that it was going to be only one. Facey could end up being the only player Manchester City sends over to New York on loan.

Having first joined Manchester City’s youth teams around the age of 9, Facey has worked himself up through different levels over the years. In 2011, he was a member of the squad that competed against Inter Milan in the Ferroli Cup. He also was invited to play with the first-team during their summer tour of South Africa where he made his debut in Johannesburg against SuperSport United.

Since then, Facey became a vital member of the Elite Development Squad as a center back and as a full back. Facey excelled as a vice-captain during the 2013/2014 season where he formed a formidable partnership in the center of the backline with Jason Denayer. After making 34 appearances, Facey earned himself a nomination for the EDS Player of the Year award and a two-year deal with Manchester City.

Along with Manchester City, Facey has also progressed through multiple age levels for his country having played for the U16, U17, and U19 England national teams. Facey made his debut for the England U19 squad against Slovenia in October 2013.

A strong, agile player that is versatile enough to play as a center back or as a full back that can make overlapping runs up the pitch, Facey could be ideal for coach Jason Kreis to further develop. Praised by EDS coach and football legend Patrick Vieira, Facey is an athletic defender that can cover plenty of ground.

Neither Manchester City nor New York City has made any announcements in regards to loan involving Facey.
“I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly.”
