He's probably been brought in to cut the wage bill even further, without getting relegated.
These American owners really are good for the game.

To be fair to Lerner, he spent pretty freely when MON was in charge and wasn't afraid to trust him. Obvs since then he's realized his investments where mostly shit and he has no trust anymore. An owner like that needs to sell because he won't do anything but tread water, as this appointment shows.
Sad for villa fans. A shit decision.
Cheers

Not sure how people can be so sure he's shit, he did well with Spurs, has come through the ranks so knows the game inside out and is well respected by players, I think. Needs to keep a bit cooler. Will get Weiman andBenteke playing together I think, cos they need to start scoring.

Think he'll do ok. Villa were going down under Lambert. They now have a fighting chance

Tim Sherwood had a brief spell of doing ok, then seemed to lose it. If I was a Villa fan, I would be gutted, apart from, I'd rather have just about anybody than Lambert (except Pearce)
Villa are probably nowhere near as bad as Lambert & Keane have made them look.
That's got to be the most manic depressive managerial partnership in the history of the game. On top of that, the pair of them gave the impression of being the football equivalent of the Drunk Bakers from Viz; blundering around aimlessly whiilst everything's on fire.

This is spot on imo. from what I've talked to some Villa fans, they were resigned to go down if Lambert doesnt go. now they have a chance, just because this lifts the fans and probably players too.
but a deal until 2018? oh dear. he will surely have been told the same thing as lambert which is to bring wages down and I think it's safe to say Villa will be fighting against relegations in the coming seasons. shame really

I reckon he'll do ok. Mind you, keeping them up is doing ok isn't it.

Had he gone to Forrest I'd have found it more interesting.

I watched Sherwood's press conference and I'm mildly amused by his unshakeable belief in his own ability. Fair play to him. I'd like to think he went into his discussions with Villa with a real plan of what he would like to do at the club, how he would utilise his contacts in the game, how he would get more from the players at his disposal and move the club forward, playing a brand of football the fans would happily pay to see, win lose or draw. Im hoping this is the case, because Ive no axe to grind with Villa particularly, although my inner cynic suggests he is an absolute fucking fraud who played the wide boy and who once again got lucky, arriving in a position he has no right to attain. He should be on the cover of the next version of Football manager, the game I click and play when ive had a few pints and vary from "pleased" to "angry" match to match without thinking about anything outside of this shitty little mantra. The fact that he was a decent player or that he's English means fuck all, he's like Pearce, a fucking hod carrier who shouldnt be managing or coaching at this level. This is what the English way delivers us. He's got fuck all new to offer from Lambert, other than a tub to thump and being able to speak clearly..and that point is debatable.
PS. I dont like the bloke
