Pep Guardiola will assess the managerial situation at Manchester United before making a decision about City.

The Bayern Munich coach is out of contract next summer and is the number one choice to succeed Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad.

But the 44-year-old is understood to be tempted by the prospect of managing at Old Trafford and will wait to see how Louis van Gaal performs next season before making any definite plans about his future.

Van Gaal will only have one year left on his contract by that stage - potentially leaving United executive vice chairman Ed Woodward in a difficult position.

The Dutchman will be approaching his 65th birthday and entering the final 12 months of his deal at a time when the world’s most sought-after coach becomes available.

Woodward will face the prospect of allowing City a free run at Guardiola if United don't enter the race for the two-time Champions League-winning, former Barcelona coach.

City chief executive Ferran Soriano and director of football Txiki Begiristain are determined to be reunited with the man they worked with at the Nou Camp.

They've been encouraged by the fact that he has not ruled out the possibility of taking over - but there are no guarantees they will secure his services.

Guardiola has confirmed he will see out the remainder of his contract at Bayern, where he has won back to back titles.

Pellegrini also has a year to run on his deal at City, with the club intent on sticking with the Chilean next season despite a trophyless campaign.

Van Gaal has successfully led United back to the Champions League in his first campaign in charge, but will be expected to deliver silverware next term.

Indeed. Because of course little City are always second choice behind the mighty united, particularly these days with them sweeping all before them into the glory of seventh and subsequently fourth place. It is of course common knowledge that united turned down Yaya, Silva, Lescott, Aguero, Tevez, Bell, Lee, Summerbee, Kinkladze, Benarbia etc, in fact anyone we ever had that is even half decent was Cast Aside by the great mune machine.

And some people think Brennan got a rough ride on here?

But! When they have got the dutch master (C), why would they need Guardiola? Surely they have already got the best manager in world football?

The article wasn't written by Brennan. They do have two clubs to report on in Manchester, although you are right in that this isn't reporting, it's pure made up speculation that has been allowed by the sports editor to pass as news

This is nothing to do with Brennan, Stuart Brennan is a sports journalist. This guy writes clickbait.

I have read this guy's work for I don't know how long now, let's put the proper name to this: JAMES ROBSON. He is an example of why the M.E.N. has turned to fucking shit.

I don't know if he has a rag bias or anything else, I suspect he doesn't tbh, but this is an example of his work. He is utterly fucking useless to anyone as a sports reporter. He may have made this story up up himself for all I know, but basically what he does, is look around the net for stories which everyone already knows about then puts said story in the Evening News with a sensationalist headline.

If for instance some shit site like the Metro, puts out a totally bollocks story that City might be interested in Harry Kane,& a bunch of other shites all quote it, that is the kind of thing he will then put in the M.E.N. It has reached the stage where, if I see a headline in the Evg News re City, I check who has written the piece, before I read it, because if it's Robson, it's just any old bullshit pulled from anywhere & presented as if it has credence; like this one re Pep & I just stop reading at the top.

Some of the things he produces are perfectly true, & were true the day before when the story actually broke.

JAMES ROBSON is shit. Not necessarily pro or anti City or Utd, just totally utterly shit & not worth reading. If there is a story he produces which isn't bollocks, you have already read it somewhere else anyhow & it's common knowledge. He breaks, nothing.

There was a time when you could trust the intentions of a City, or Utd, story in that paper.

Not anymore. If Brennan writes something, then I usially trust it's a genuine story at least intended in the right way, good or bad.

Some of these other clowns are just a waste of fucking time, & they must be fucking desperate for any old readers; to give these clickbait blokes space.

There is no chance Woodward would want Guardiola, he has his no1 man now.Woodward knows nothing about football and is purely a figures man. So when Pep says he will keep possession and score a goal which takes 100 touches rather than give up possession easily, however Butthead says I can score in 3 touches (including the ballboy) then there will be only 1 winner.

Beautifully eviscerated, Ted. They sometimes even publish stories about City (and no doubt the rags) where no-one is credited with the article.

The thing is, Utd are of course one of the teams Pep would consider if he followed on with his stated plan of managing in the Premier League. That would be assuming City haven't already got him tied up before they ever get the chance. But, Utd, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, maybe even Liverpool, would be possibilities.

The rag media though, have him down as 'waiting' to manage Utd. Why ? Because once, he was at Old Trafford & apparently said he could 'imagine himself' working 'here' or words to that effect. He didn't even say he fucking meant Utd, he could have meant 'here' as in England.

From that comment, the rag media, & thus loads of rag fans, have run with the idea that it's his 'dream' to manage at the swamp & that he's 'holding out' for it, in spite of the fact that Ferguson more or less offered him the fucking job, & he went to Bayern Munich! Perhaps the agent said 'I've sorted the Munich job", & he misunderstood ? (Oooh controversial but valid as comedy).

It's like when you go on holiday & say " ooh I could live here ". Then you say it again somewhere else the year after.
