Top2 for the fourth season in a row

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Top2 for the fourth season in a row

Postby Wooders » Sun May 24, 2015 7:59 pm

I know we're dissappointed at how things played out this season, but this is a fantastic achievement and shouldn't be overlooked.
It's amazing to think that we're now easily in the top ten clubs in the world from where we were - a true fairy tale if ever there was, complete with the ogre under the bridge with their made up on the spot "ffp" regs

It appears as if "ffp" us dead under the bridge, but look where we are in despite of it's attempt to eat us.
I myself am looking forward to our future and now the warpaint is truly daubed - fuck off with your buying trophies, fuck off with your history, fuck off with your points should be docked - it's been proven to be self preservation bollocks and ye shall no reap the whirlwind you fucks.

Meh Its more an expectation than achievement tbh. In two of those seasons we weren't even in a title challenge.

Really struggle to see any side apart from chelsea and united (they will spend another hundred odd million in the summer) finishing ahead of us considering our squad.

Yes a brilliant stat - top 2 in the last 4 years. A number of clubs have spent a fortune (Dippers, Spurs etc) but not found any consistency (and no trophies) because they have not bought well enough and have had idiots managing their teams. I'm delighted with our last 4 seasons....onwards and upwards.

I also think its worth a mention. Also the season before when we were third it was level on points with Chelsea. So in the five years only the champions have more points than us. A model of consistency. Yes we have spent money. But so have everyone else, its just that we have done it better.

Aye, with the FA Cup as a consolation prize that year. Not a bad little thing.

MoTD. no congratulations for Sergio winning the golden boot by 5 !!!!
Not even a mention of Hart, England's goalie winning the golden gloves.
No city player in the team of the season.
No city player nominated for player of the season.
We scored more goals than anyone by 10 !!!!
Last season we won the Premier League and the League Cup,we didn't win the player of the season should have been Ya Ya ( Suarez was brilliant but won nothing) by a country mile or the manager of the season pellers first season in English football.
There is defiantly a campaign not to congratulate or recognise us in any way. And do you know what and I'll stick my neck out and say we played the best football this season too Chelsea had a good couple of games and Hazard is something else but they were nowhere near us for sheer quality of team play but with Maureen in charge they grind out wins by boring the fans and opposition shitless.
As long as we play or attempt to play the game the way it should be played I'm happy !!!!
Nacho man for golden boot next season, he's the real deal.

I'm with Wooders and the sparkly horse, top scorers by some way just wasn't enough this time and just how far we have come is astonishing. Even more glad Horlock and Dickov got those late Wembley goals now as I don't think any of this would have happened. 4 trophies in 5 seasons was beyond our wildest dreams and for 2 of them to be league champions even more so. Onwards and upwards.

Looking back over the season, and those previously, how can we be really disappointed? Fair enough, when we went through that sticky patch where we thought that we were fighting for 4th (as the media told us on many occasions after Buttheads 'Fight for 4th' statement) then it was looking uncomfortable but now, well, the outlook is completely different.

As mentioned above, by a few, we are still the team to watch and with a big summer ahead the future is looking very Blue,

And Weaver who obviously won us the match. Weird how he always gets left out.

Of course there is a huge amount to be happy about. However we are at a bit of a cross roads now. This transfer window is vital, another bad one and were in trouble.

I don't think this was a good season by any stretch. Domestic cups were awful, Champions League was again a brick wall and we were not in the title race from late January on. Finished second for which we get a trophy right? Nope.

We are in the business of winning things now, by that yardstick this season can only be seen as a failure. We didn't even progress in any way in Europe and I want us to win a damn title and actually give the defence a good run.

Spot on both of you, as for Weaver....

To this day I can still clearly see him as beckons the team to chase him and then hurdle the add boards heading towards and the crowd giving 'Weaver-Weaver-Weaver-Weaver' my voice didn't come back until two days later

I think our late run really glossed over a really horrific period from January to the end of March, and as you say, the cup failures were particularly unacceptable given their nature, particularly given that Newcastle blatantly had no interest in the cup we beat them in.

I can live with the Champions League disappointment, until we hit a kinder draw we will always struggle to get past the very top teams over 2 legs, and even then, I think to win it, the english teams who have won it have had to show considerable pragmatism to do so against better opposition. We will either need a more pragmatic manager, or significantly better players (probably both in fact) - and that really is the takeaway from this season for me if the club want to progress in Europe.

But, as a run of consistency, no lower than joint 2nd for 5 seasons is a bloody good performance from the club - and with that sort of league consistency we really should be looking to kick on in Europe

Whoever finishes above us wins the league. If we play at our best, we do. Not a bad situation to be in but we need a bit more consistency.
