Most of the gutter press gave him 10 for the performance. Fantastic. Some of the tricks he pulled out of the bag that day, were so good people were just gasping with amazement & laughing. One where he turned one way but flicked the ball the other way, with screw on it like a snooker shot, ran one side of the defender & the ball went the other, then the ball landed at his feet on the other side. Never seen fuck all like that, before or since. I can imagine Ronaldinho might have managed it somewhere, but not when I was watching.
About a month later Marsh played his last game for City. As a slight aside, I wonder if anyone can remember which players took his striker's job for the next few games, when he was dropped ? I've just had my memory jogged & it relates to a topic on here not long ago.

Tommy Booth?
I recall a moment of Rodney's that has stayed with me to this day. The ball was hit over the top to him and the linesman flagged him offside. Rodney saw the linesman do this and when the ball came to him he overhead kicked it back onside. You had to see it to appreciate it but was very funny at the time. Another was when he had scored a goal and the opposition defenders were bickering amongst themselves. He just sat on the ball, laughing at them.

Wanchope v leeds at elland road.
The second half v Stoke on Boxing Day, 1998.
Paul Power's equaliser at Everton in the cup quarter final in 81.
The Uwe game at the end of the season at Sheffield Wednesday. Good beer with the Wednesday fans after as well.
For starters.

The Wednesday game. Was that the one it finished 1-1 with what must have been 12000+ blues there? The whole Leppings Lane end and what seemed like a quarter of the cantilever stand were blue. I just rocked up on the day and was in the cantilever stand and couldn't believe how many blues were round me. Superb atmosphere and the Wednesday fans were happy as Sheffield United were relegated after losing at Chelsea iirc

First Dave Watson, who scored, then Tommy Booth, who scored!
Only at City. You drop & transfer list the bloke who was close to our poty at that point, & play a cb at cf, & he scores! Then we end up winning the League Cup & it appears everything is perfect. Then next season, we miss the title by one point, & have no Rodney Marsh, having already lost Colin Bell, and never finish as high again or win anything again until Mancini.

Our kid, who's 8 years older than me, said when we got rid of Marsh he was never better as a player and had fully become a team player in his time with us. But he fell out with Book, so off he goes.
