Really don't rate him. But for 8 mill, difficult to argue about if he's signed as a squad filler.

That's 4 bald black blokes we'll have in centre mid. That's got to be some type of record.

Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph will complete an £8m switch to Manchester City in the next 24 hours, according to reports.

The 25-year-old signed a new deal with Villa mid-way through last season, confirming the news with a video to Villa fans in which he claimed that there is too little loyalty in football nowadays - inferring that his contract extension was an example of his loyalty to the club.

However, in recent weeks it became apparent that Delph's bumper contract had a release clause written in to it - believed to be in the region of £8 million.

And now, according to media reports, it is understood that City have activated that release clause and personal terms have been agreed.

Former Leeds United player Delph did not travel with Tim Sherwood's side to their pre-season training camp in Portugal, and it is expected that he will now complete the transfer to the Etihad Stadium and become Manuel Pellegrini's first signing of the summer.

Pellegrini is in the market for homegrown talent following James Milner's move to Liverpool earlier this month.

Forgive my ignorance, but where does he play, whose first XI role will he shadow / replace and although he's an international player is he any good?

It's a good common sense signing for me. £8m is a very good deal. If the clause wasn't in his contract Villa would be asking us for double that.

Think it's a great signing. He's stood out many, many times over the past few years. He just seemed to be unable to break into the next level, consistency throughout games and throughout the season of great performances. But he's had some great moments, notably the goal against Chelsea. Also important to remember that he was playing for fucking Lambert when evaluating his overall impact.

Not a star signing, but a very smart piece of business and should fit into our style of play very well. Like a younger Fernandinho imho. Only 25 too.

Welcome to City!!!

I also think it's a great signing, and as said above, a younger version of Fernandinho. That's who he reminds me of the most. Great signing especially for the price were paying! I think he will complement Yaya very nicely in the middle.

Surely he would not come to City unless he expects to get decent game time and then it's up to him. I doubt City will have guaranteed him a start in our best 11 but he will get chances and from there we might have a steal.

oh fuck off. Comparisons to rodwell and sinclair only feed the rag/dipper media. Both of them were contributing players, but not a main factor in their previous teams.

How quickly we City fans get spoiled. He was the captain of Villa (a big club by most people's standards) and one of the main reasons why they stayed up. Certainly contributed more than Benteke.

English player who has had a larger opportunity due to him for a bit now. More than happy that he's at City.

He might currently be regarded as an England International but, by signing for City, that's probably the kiss of death for any further hopes he might have of playing for Woy's Boys.

Good luck to him. He may not be the stellar signing many were hoping for, but like Milner he has high work rate and hopefully he will be an important member of our squad.

Garcia, Sinclair and Maicon were most certainly main factors at their previous clubs. 'Big clubs' such as Benfica, Inter and Swansea.

Benteke was injured for a large part of the season, so maybe we should compare him to Rodwell? Not sure why you'd mention him and I also don't believe that fending off relegation is a quality with any weight without taking other things into consideration. Plenty of ordinary players have played big roles in similar circumstances. Scott Parker was named POTY after 'saving' West Ham and look how that turned out at Spurs, a club that didn't even challenge for the title.

However, I personally think it's a good signing, as I think Delph is a decent player & a bargain at that price, considering his Englishness and age. It would still be a terrible transfer window if the big hitters don't follow & we get a couple more plodders such as Maicon instead, so I can understand the doubts.

No arguments from me on this signing, for once we've managed not to pay over the odds for a player.Great bit of business really considering how difficult it is to sign an English player and not end up paying silly money for the privilege.

I don't see him being in the first choice eleven but I think his high energy approach will see him get plenty of game time, major step up on Fernando that's for sure.
