Premier League clubs have agreed to continue working on introducing a hard spending cap from the start of the 2025-26 season as part of a new system of financial controls to replace the much-maligned Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Under proposals to be formally voted on at the Premier League's AGM in June, all clubs' spending on transfers, wages and agent fees will be limited to around five times the amount earned by the top-flight's bottom club in TV and prize money, which was £100.3million for Southampton last season.

Manchester United, Manchester City and Aston Villa all voted against the new system known as 'anchoring' at a meeting in London on Monday, with Chelsea abstaining, but with 16 clubs in favour the new restrictions are expected to be agreed at their end of season meeting.


While the precise ratio has yet to be determined the new rules are expected to 'anchor' spending to around five times the income of the bottom club, amounting to around £500m.

The clubs have also yet to agree whether the new limits would apply to their entire staff costs or just player wages.

This salary cap is just another version of the draft - guaranteeing the US hedgie backed clubs get a guaranteed return on their investment via a set percentage of the prize pot. Totally anti-competitive and Real, Bayern & PSG will be rubbing their hands at the prospect of hoovering up the best players.Yanks don't care about the future if the game, only a risk free quick profit. Herbert is our arch hater along with Jackson. So we are the only top flight club performing accounting gymnastics ? Just a brazen lie and at least our profits are taxed in and go to the UK not the Cayman Islands/ Delaware haven the rags and the other yank chiselers use.

He’s a very good player and we have to come to terms with the fact that he may turn out just as good, if not better than Foden. For a young player like that to effectively and pretty much single-handedly keep Chelsea in the top half of the table and be their best player by a country mile, I personally take my hat off to him. Imagine where they’d be without him ?
As for POTY….? nowhere near Foden this time round.
I personally think he’ll be a fantastic player through his mid-late 20’s and I wish him well and wish he’d stayed.
