Even if he's offsides on kickoff, the rags still had 45 yards and 9 players between him and the goal. Really scraping the bottom of the barrel for excuses

A fellow rag cab driver who is always to be found whiling his time on a particular rank, suddenly went missing late last night.
But....I found him....He tried to hide under his steering wheel.
Not very good at being shit, these rags...are they?

He actually said that he doesn't like the way City play, it's boring, 'cos City keep the ball and don't let the other teams have it. He was being serious.

Here is the official law taken from the Fifa rules of the game. Newly modified for 2017-18

Rule 8:
Kickoff

The team that wins the toss of a coin decides which goal it will attack in the first half
their opponents take the kick-off
the team that wins the toss takes the kick-off to start the second half
for the second half, the teams change ends and attack the opposite goals
after a team scores a goal, the kick-off is taken by their opponents

Good : Choices removed - makes it all easier.

For every kick-off:

all players, except the player taking the kick off, must be in their own half of the field of play
the opponents of the team taking the kick-off must be at least 9.15 m (10 yds) from the ball until it is in play
the ball must be stationary on the centre mark
the referee gives a signal
the ball is in play when it is kicked and clearly moves
a goal may be scored directly against the opponents from the kick-off;
if the ball directly enters the kicker's goal,
a corner kick is awarded to the opponents

Q1: Can the kick-off be kicked backwards?

YES - the kick-off can now be kicked in any direction and referees are now expected to stop a
player of the team taking the kick-off standing in the opponents’ half as this is now not necessary.

Where there is uncertainty, is in the fact that it is not clear whether the referee should stop a player being in the oppositions half after he has given
the signal to start and the time it takes to 'kick the ball' - which for the most of us is pretty much immediately after the signal.
Once the ball is kicked or once the whistle is blown, can the player can go into the opponents half ? Why not the opposition , must be 9.5 metres away
so no offside anyway. Encroaching before being kicked could be argued but never offside.

Anyway a player advancing in the opponents half in which ever circumstance at the kick off can never be offside.

The opposition would be complete idiots to line up all eleven players on the halfway line at a kick off, since the player kicking off can score a goal direct from the kick off. ( interestingly a back pass in the own goal results in a corner - if no one else touches the ball. ) . But on this last point, i would put it past the Rags to all line up together- Thickos that they are.
