Apparently we're signing him, unless AS are just picking random, non-descript players and filling in their names in stories related to us. Also likely, come to think of it.

The 23-year-old Castilla player spent last season on loan at Ponferradina after making his Real debut under Ancelotti in 2014.
Rubén Sobrino has reached an agreement to join Manchester City. The Castilla striker, who spent last season on loan at Ponferradina in Spain's Segunda División, will probably be loaned out by Manuel Pellegrini to gain some experience of Premier League football.
Sobrino, 23, joined Real Madrid in 2008 and worked his way up from the Juvenil B team to make his senior debut under Carlo Ancelotti in 2014.

There were reports coming from Spain last week that we're allegedly part buying a Basque club, FC Girona, with Pere Guardiola and some other guy and that this Sobrino bloke would be bought by City and loaned to Girona as part of the deal.

apparently, being a 23 year old striker, he scored 5 goals in 41 games last season on last season with a second division team (and 0 goals in 20 appreances for Real Madrid B the year before that)... not the most encouraging CV we've seen. Will be interesting to hear the reason behind it

this actually might explain the deal a bit more:
http://www.marca.com/en/2015/08/13/en/f ... 93101.htmlIn the next few days Girona and Manchester City could seal a partnership agreement that would see loanees from the Premier League giants land at the Catalan club.
Pere Guardiola, the brother of Bayern Munich boss Pep, is leading the talks after having played a key role in brokering the Spanish second-division outfit's takeover by French company TV Sport Events. Guardiola, who is the agent of several top players, is also said to have shares in the club.
The deal is a strategic part of Girona's current plans and could help explain how such a high-profile figure as former Atlético de Madrid defender Delfí Geli was lured to become his boyhood club's new president.
If the negotiations come to fruition, Girona would join a group of around 20 clubs who have tie-ups with the Citizens, including Espanyol. The premier partners in this network are New York City, Melbourne City and Yokohama Marinos, all of whom are owned (either completely or partially) by Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
And heres a youtube of him playing against some of the worst defences you've ever seen:

16 of his 41 appearances were off the bench, giving him a slightly better 5 from 25 starts...urgh.
As for RM, he played all but 2 of his matches from the bench.

Seriously what on earth is happening here? Rumours of a part-ownership of Girona linked in with this signing and loaning him to them. Are we muscling in to the mighty Catalan football establishment.?
I'm down Girona way in October I'll pop in and ask the cleaner.

Not a bad youth pipeline to be a part of ... are we part owners of the club with Guardiola? Interesting connection ...

Smells even more like "Peperation" for next season if you axe me.
Catalonian pipeline. Pep's bro. Pellegrini's payout/extension. Smoke. Fire? Who knows.
cheers

I really don't get what is going on with buying these mid 20's players and them never getting close to Manchester itself..........
Guess most of us had forgotten about this one too.....
Manchester City send Spaniard out on loan to Alavés
La Liga club Deportivo Alavés have announced the signing of 24-year-old forward Rubén Sobrino from Manchester City on loan for the 2016-17 season with the option to extend that by another year.
Sobrino, signed by City a year ago for £200,000 from Ponferradina, has attracted plenty of interest from across Europe after spending last season on loan at Girona.
After reaching Real Madrid Castilla, he was part of Carlo Ancelotti’s pre-season with the first time in 2014-15, before heading to Ponferradina. There, he caught the eye of Manchester City scouts, and was signed before heading to Girona on loan to support their ultimately unsuccessful quest for promotion.
Rather than return to City’s partner club, he instead joins last season’s Segunda División champions, enabling him to play in Spain’s top flight this coming season. Alavés’ official statement reads: ‘The striker from Manchester City will offer his offensive versatility to the team.’
Most fookin bizarre.........

I think there's also an element of bumping up our partner clubs - in this case (last season) Girona. Whilst they haven't got a pot to pee in I understand that 4 loanees 'from City' last season turned them into 2nd-tier title contenders from relegation contenders.

I think this is what it is - with players like him and Zucculini - buy relatively cheap 'second rate' players (from the first team's perspective) that are still good footballers, then loan them out for a fat fee for a few years to make a profit, and maybe sell them while they still have some value. The Chelsea model of business.
And if one of them happens to be a late bloomer, bring him to City.
