Annoying as hell on MOTD but a huge influence on the game and a man way ahead of his time.

RIP

A true collossus of the game. Every single player playing now owes him a huge debt of gratitude. A true pioneer and visionary of the game. Very much ahead of his time.

RIP Jimmy

All seater stadium at Coventry, everyone thought he was barmy. Before that he got the maximum wage abolished. Wonder if he ever thought it would be 300 grand a week plus?

Once actually stepped in as a linesman when there was an injury to the referee.

Brian Moore supported Gillingham but your point is a good one. They were impartial. It is a relic of a bygone age.

RIP Jimmy.

He's still the face, well chin, of MOTD for me. He could be controversial but somehow you never disliked him.

He was the man who first came up with the idea to have sponsorship on the front of football shirts - 40+ years ago!
As a few have already said he really was ahead of his time regarding the commercial aspects of football.

His great obsession later in life was having former players become referees because they understand the game. Trouble is they're not interested in the shitty pay.

I guess it would depend on how low down the footballing pyramid you go - there's got to be a point where it becomes financially attractive to some journeyman clogger or other. (Then it's just a matter of identifying the intelligent ones). Keeping talent within the 'industry' makes a lot of sense.

Seemed like a good sort. Cared passionately about the game and when all is said and done, 87 is decent innings.

Grew up watching Chinny, wish we still had more of the likes of him.

Even in his later TV role with Sunday Supplement was a bit of an eye opener, just a pity he tried to tow the party line and goit confused.

Good bloke, had a good life.

Rest the soul.

If he had been FIFA president instead of Havelange in 1974, football would be miles better off for it.

Dont think he was ever in the frame, but had integrity and football at the forefront of everything. Would have been a great choice

RIP Jim and chin. Great innings. Can remember when the maximum wage(£20 a week) was abolished and Fulham paid Johnny Haynes a hundred quid a week to abuse from the red tops and opposing supporters. And that, my friends, was the Swinging Sixties, when the Beatles could only be signed to a comedy label(Parlophone), were paid one old penny(1/12th of 5p) per record sold, and had to record their first album in one night during down time. Ken Dodd was top of the charts. Well at least footballers' pay has changed, lol
