I mean proper first team purchases - not random A league players
Despite the squad being hit by numerous serious injuries & the lightest we have been on strikers in a while we haven't brought in a first team player - I can't think of a window under pellers we haven't bought despite the squad being in a better place

Should we read anything into it given *that* rumor doing the rounds??

A couple of astute short term or loan signings might be the difference between winning the league or not. A Vieira or a Pizzaro style signing.

We have an incredible amount of games coming up, a tone of injuries and our squad is light. It makes sense to me, quite who I'm not sure.

It does solidify the Pep rumours doesn't it.

He will want to bring in his own players so why buy in this window if he doesn't agree, a waste of money some would say?

Me personally, I would like to see an addition of a striker, Bony isn't performing whatsoever and he is our only real back up bar Nacho who still has a lot to learn.

We went from a team with 4 recognised strikers and always playing two up top (to the annoyance of some) to being a two striker team and playing one up too most of the time.

If Pep comes I would imagine a marquee striker signing, dare I say Messi!!!!!

Reading this just raised a questiuon or 2 for me. "Nacho still has a lot to learn" Whilst my initial reaction is to agree as he is still very young and inexperienced I then thought what exactly has he got to learn compared to say Bony?

He has a good touch , a good instinct for a pass or or a goal, brings others into play well because he sees movement and passing opportunities, he's strong ( can get stronger obviously), reasonably quick.

Bony generally has a poor first touch, not sure he has good passing in his game but obviously is good for goals, good in the air, very strong ( an attribute he tries to lean on too much imo) and not very quick.

Maybe Bony isn't the best comparison but the point is that I am not really sure Nacho has much to actually learn but just needs playing experience at the top level to further develop the skills and knowledge he already has.

In my opinion Nacho is better than Bony, but he is young and I'm presuming he's being held back and brought through slowly, I cannot see Bony with us next season.

The PL is a two horse race this season and one of them has history for choking. If we assume Pellegrini will be replaced for next season and thus, the board don't want to sanction money for new players in case they don't fit with the next managers style, then that's ok by me. The next manager will lay further foundations on what Pellegrini has laid. The club now think long term so I doubt very much the primary goal is the PL. If we win it, then fantastic, but equally if we don't, as long as we are in the CL next season, the next manager has the summer to start to fashion his squad. If that is to be Pep, then he will already have one eye on that.

In short, what we have now is what we will have to play with on February 2nd. We are already in one final and are favourites at the bookies for the PL. Unless we have a disasterous run in or a further slew of injuries it will be another successful season

I think fact we have a new manager come Summer is obvious now. As soon as papers were reporting Scum weren't interested then time get your money on Pep being our manager. Pellegrini saying he doesn't need another player is something managers never say unless know they aren't getting one anyway. I really like Pellegrini and hope the team can give him class send off as he has put up with load of shit in an impressive fashion. Hope new manager though starts giving some back though as some the twats in the media need sorting

Can't be any worse than some of our central defenders this season. I was thinking about getting my boots out myself.

PG would've already been contacted regarding player acquisition and I reckon there'd be no chance of us getting one of those players in this window. We are looking at WC players now who will be in various comps for their clubs. Nobody let's these players go, unless it's for stupid money.

This squad needs very little, certainly that is available right now.
No1 priority must be Pogba. Maybe another midfielder, Isco?
A centre half looks a necessity, and as a suggestion a friend of mine suggested Cahill, who is reportedly unhappy at the moment.
MDM will surely be gone in the summer, as will Yaya I suspect. Possibly Nasri.
As for strikers it's difficult to imagine anybody coming to play second fiddle to Sergio. I'm convinced we also have another world class striker in Nacho. As third choice Bony is not too bad, ugly style but he has found the net a reasonable amount. As we play with just one centre forward as a rule, I think three is sufficient.

In summary, it's not at all surprising we aren't heavily involved in the scramble.

I'll post this again but the subtext of Pellers interviews about him is that he doesn't work hard enough in training and has the attitude that he's already made it.

Making him earn it and keeping him hungry.

That's fair but for me that would be a reason to play him more rather than not play him because "he has a lot to learn".

As I have said before I think he should have already played more times from the bench and maybe a few more starts (definitely not starting all the time) but Pellers is handling him quite well. I hope Kelechi feels the same and just keeps showing what a talent he is when given the chances.

And we have got make sure he doesn't play too many games then end up physically fucked at 25 like owen and rooney. This lad could be playing up front for us for the next 12 years if we manage him correctly.
