Things you're not sure on

Following the recent penalty Barca scored and the stat that Vardy alone has won six penalties this season, which is more than every other PL club by the way, I wondered whether the person fouled received an assist for the resultant goal, if scored of course?

Apparently Messi will get an assist as he played the final pass for the penalty at the weekend so it would seem fair to me the person fouled gets the assist as well. I suppose the same could then be applied should a direct free kick be scored.

Any other posters wondered about things or why they are done a certain way?

I wonder why city do not take freekicks in a similar fashion to other teams? Our short pass fk really baffle me.

Prob not what you was looking for though lol

No, it's a really good one. Also, given the number of players we have who are good at free kicks, why on earth don't we go down more in dangerous positions? Other teams seem to induce fouls in these areas to maximise their potential.

Should it then not be given as an assist by the player that makes the foul, in an own-goal kind of way? In some cases should the assist be given to Mr. Clattenburg?

I though the fouled person got the assist if they didnt take the penalty? Or is that just in my head? I am sure thats how the fantasy footy works.

I reckon if Barca do that again, they will get lumps kicked out of them, its disrespectful and ungentlemanly conduct IMO. Yes is looks funny or smart, but if we play them and they tried it I would want very city player to have hold of a Barca player at the edge of the box and to rake their calfs if they wriggle free.

I kind of feel that football is an entertainment business and tricks like this only add to the theatre of the game. You could argue Messi slaloming past five defenders, nutmeg going them at will, rounding the goalie after he has been put on his backside and walking it into an empty net could be construed at disrespectful when actually it is a goal of the season contender.

I'd like to see a player, after rounding the goalie, instead of shooting into an empty net, take the ball to the goal line and get on his knees and head it in! That probably is taking the piss a bit but how funny would it be to watch?

Technically Messi missed the penalty, therefore the player who won the penalty wouldn't be able to claim the assist. Unless you start going down the American route of Assisted Assists.....

Agreed. Seems pointless. We have never scored from such FK have we?

Also, why we never take inswinging corners? I would imagine this season's and last season's shit corner records would urge them to try something different.

In relation to corners:

These are professional footballers who are the best of the best. Yet continuously they fail to clear the first man! Surely it would be better to be too high and clear everyone and have a man on the far wing to collect any loose balls? One of my absolute bug bears along with having every man back defending at corners. Far better to have a couple of forwards in and around the centre circle as it then means the opposition have to leave at least three men back, thus negating their attacking options

Plus a lot more space for the goalie to come and claim the ball.

Why, when we get a free kick, do we wait for the opposition to get everyone in position before we then take it short and ultimately play it back to Hart to kick into the stand? Rose shoved Silva out of the way on Sunday to launch a free kick up their wing whilst we were still wandering about.

On corners, why when Sterling runs towards the flag as if for a short corner, taking two defenders with him, does the person taking the corner wave him away, waiting for the two defenders to get back in the box, together with the aerial prowess of Sterling, before we then kick it against the first defender?

When Hart takes a goal kick, why does he wave everyone to one side, then kick it that way so we can lose the header, rather than, say, kicking it into the space on the other side so that the lines of Aguero, Navas or Sterling could race onto it?

Basically, why the fuck does everything we do take ages and have to be telegraphed to the opposition first?
