Is any player safe?

Postby nottsblue » Thu Mar 03, 2016 8:05 pm

Much has been made of Peps arrival and who he is going to bring in. Out of our current squad how many are safe and are likely to be in his plans?

Obviously we can't replace an entire squad, more like four or five at an absolute push. But the ones who go may be a surprise as we not get offers for those we would ordinarily look to move on. The likes of Nasri and Navas to name two, are ones you'd expect to possibly move on but if we can't shift them then could a bigger name go if we get a good offer?

I imagine Hart, Kompany, Fernandinho, KDB, Sterling, Aguero, Iheanacho, Delph, are safe. The jury is out on the others for me as to who will go or stay. It wouldn't then shock me though if we sold say Aguero if a massive offer came in and we were able to do a deal for a Neymar or a Messi. Unlikely, but not a shock.

The PL campaign since West Ham at home has been poor. Lethargic, poor in front of goal, poor in midfield are just three symptoms. Our away form is terrible, seven goals in the last ten games. Bizarrely, we have a PL for away clean sheets to further add to the confusion of the season. Something needs to be done in the summer and I'm not sure a change in management alone is sufficient. It appears some of the squad have become complacent. That is a slippery slope.

As I say, I doubt we will see more than four or five new faces at best. Unless we promote from the academy very early on. I think the majority of players should be worried

5 A listers would be enough. Promote 4-5 from the youth and make everyone earn their place. Any dip in performance and a kid gets your place. Up the energy.
That way you could let 8 - 9 go.

I would say Kelechi, De Bruyne, and Aguero are the only SAFE ones. Nico, Sterling, and Hart most likely are too but i wouldnt be surprised if they were shuffled out with the rest. Delph and/or Clichy are prob safe too but only 'cause theyre HG

It's not always easy to get rid of players, which means some will be safe if we like it or not. If Pep for example wanted to lose Sterling or Bony then this would be difficult. Other clubs would not be willing to match their wages so they are safe.

Read Peps book, technic, great hearing and a clear understanding of what your role is, The Law under Pep. If I have a fear it is the players on the way out will have a big say in next season. Not ideal if you want a tune from a disgruntled pissed off player, who is being told he is OUT.

I don't think anyone is safe if honest and they only have themselves to blame. This team should be doing miles better but for some reason they just keep under achieving.

These guys don't want for anything and still can't performe at a high level consistently. How many league games have we lost now, 8 or 9? I'm excited for the summer and can't wait to see who bring in.

Would not be surprised to see Hart go. But do we need to replace our keeper?? Other areas need looking at first IMO.

Mate, under Pep City will have a clear pattern no breakdown/ turnover, DECENT players who are hard of hearing like Dante no longer at Bayern will be gone. Pep drills players until they get it, TEAM TEAM TEAM, or gone SIMPLES. Zlatan tried it, Gone. Pep will be watching Wed night Txiki is his eyes and he will not like what we saw. Biggest problem is these players are being relied upon to get us CL, before they are shipped out.

Just cant see massive or wholesale changes in his first window, 8-9 gone, not so sure about those numbers. We need several top players in critical positions and that takes time. While I am eagerly looking forward to pep coming and shaking things up, he will need more than one summer to form and mould a new team.
It will be very interesting to see what he can do with this current group (with a few additions omissions to same) in his first season. Could pep take this current squad and make them champions next season?

Now there's a question.

We're all told that we have by far the best squad in the league so if that's to be believed then naturally the alleged best coach in the world should be able to win the league at a canter with this squad, shouldn't he?

Weren't you watching against Kiev and against Liverpool at Wembley? Fernandinho playing right and dropping back in the centre to make up the numbers not a plan B?

When we played at the Swamp and sat in not a plan B?

We went from two out and out strikers in his first season to just one at the end of last season into this, not a plan B?

I think you misunderstood. During a match if things aren't going our way, like Wednesday, there's no plan b. Ever. Pellers idea of a plan b is take off an attacker and put Fernando on.

We've played all of our best football this season with 2 wingers. In the first 5 games with Sterling and Navas, and against Kiev and Liverpool (cup final) with Sterling and Fernandinho.

We changed it earlier in the season to accommodate KDB and our form has been patchy ever since. Not blaming KDB, but more our setup.

For me, that gives our best hope of success in the remainder of this season.

Mancini's plan B was to take off an attacker and put De Jong on, it worked fairly well.

Sorry mate but I don't buy this 'no plan B' argument at all.

I dont think so. The squad will have to get used to a whole new style of football (peps style) and the squad will have to evolve at the same time.
Pep will need time. If he can evolve the squad, get much more from current group, implement his methods and win the title at the same time, he will be some manager.
Were the biggest job he will ever have.
Of course the media will be on his back from day 1, with the usual stuff about big squad great players etc etc. But the fans need to be patient and not expect too much in the short term.

That's all very sensible, my post was more questioning this belief out there that our squad is far superior to the rest of the league.

That said, the clueless, senile, old cunt won the league in his first year here, so surely Pep can do it too?
