You don't need one to go to the UK, if you're entering from Ireland:

Or vice-versa when you're already in the UK, I should have added. As long as you've got some other form of ID, you'll be okay. However, the airline you're travelling with can impose additional rules/fines, which might mean you'll have to ferry it back.

This is all true and if you are on Aer Lingus
it isn't a problem. I've done it. Ryanair are bitches though. They demand a passport.
They can be difficult to deal with.

On a board crammed with hyperbole, this has to go down as understatement of the year.

So, there's nothing to stop OD re-entering RoI, just to stop him getting on one of Michael O'Leary's planes...

Happened one of my mates when we were in Brussels decades ago.
We basically retraced our steps the next day. We had to go to every bar we'd been too. One wasn't open until 5pm. Of course that's the one it turned up in. It had fallen down behind a seat.
OD you would expect the likes of a passport to be handed in behind the bar. Try everywhere you've been.
Still time before the match.

Tell them you're a citizen of the world and you don't need a piece of paper to define your identity.
