International easter break

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

International easter break

I see the Otter played the full game in Argentina's win. Sergio also played 66 mins and is OK. No minutes for Zaba or MDM.

Silva come on in 71st minute for Spain.

No injuries to report yet

Am I the only one who is happy for a break for a change? International football is usually the bane of my existence, but i enjoyed watching the argies this morning. Relaxed again.

Normally hate these breaks. This one however, has come at a good time for us. Time to recharge and get away from it. Hopefully, after it, we will return a bit more focused.

Still shan't be watching the England games though.

Will still be watching England, it's part of my DNA. Actually, they may give me more cheer than ours at the moment.

And they get away with it. Really pisses me off when Pellers congratulates the ref on how hard their job is. This shit is real easy, surely he can see David is being targeted.

The ref was a joke last night.

Dave made it alright, but he had some hard tackles against him. He practically runs the show for Spain, however, he looked same as this season, mediocre.

The romanian squad changed a lot, they are more of a big games team now. 2-2 with Italy, 0-0 with Spain and Argentina, so maybe that is why Dave did not shine. He had a guard dog (Hoban) after him the whole 60 minutes he played.

Besides the kicking of Silva, I'm glad the Romanians are perhaps coming back again into international football. Wish we could make a young Hagi out of something and put him in the City team.

Tell me about it, but it is almost impossible.

Sweden was responsible of the nightmares every romanian had in 94 and why that amazing team with Hagi did not play the semifinal at the World Cup. Well, Ravelli actually.

We have a really interesting squad now, after a while, many are actually excited to see us play, including myself, only one goal conceided in the whole qualifiers, however, the romanian players don't have the mentality to reach the level Hagi was. When Chiriches came to Spurs, I was convinced he will be amazing. He failed because he decided to start drinking, act like a cunt and a pseudo star and now he is a reserve at Napoli. Don't get me started with Mutu and Chivu, biggest cunts I ever saw. I hope that our coach, who was the same as in 94 and a European Cup winner, finalist and Super Cup winner knows how to play at the Euro.

Now, making a new Hagi, there is this kid, our number 10, Nicusor Stanciu. Concentrated only on football, maybe the only lad in the last years that has really big potential. Rumoured he will sign with Inter or Milan in the summer. Last night tried to score passed Casillas from 45 m and made a fool out of Alba every time he was against him. I was trying to understand wtf is happening. Looks like the real deal.

Haha, yeah. And thanks to THAT save, the summer of 94 is a classic one in Swedish folklore, at least for anyone the slightest interest in football or the national team. I was just a kid then but from what I understand Ravelli was not considered a good goalkeper before, in the beginning of, and after that tournament. But he made that save.

Reading about it afterwards, it seems clear that one thing that benefitted the Swedish national team at that tournament was that several key players in the national team peaked at the same time. For a country like Sweden or Romania with a, let's just say, limited talent pool, I think that's a necessary.

I don't have much hope for our team at the Euros this summer so I wish you the best of luck. After all, how could I not root for someone who makes a fool of Alba. That deserves a medal every day of the week.

Edit: it's also harder to see who of all the young players will make it. It used to be that if someone went abroad, that player would most likely be considered for the national team one way or the other. Nowadays, more Swedish players than ever are going abroad and I honestly can't imagine they're better now than they used to be. So, the player market's changed I guess, and players will go abroad, like Chicheres, having proved a lot less and will be all teh more disappointing when they're showed up for what they are. Talented but lacking.

The kid has potential, really talented. There are a lot of Youtube clips with him, like with every so called wonderkid, but he might make it if he goes abroad soon.

That game has a lot of Folklore around it too. We (the romanians) knew Ravelli before the WC, he played in Steaua vs IFK Goteborg, 5-1, where he was very poor and also insane. To be fair, the only better team in Europe beside Steaua between 1986-1990 was the famous Milan with Van Basten, Rijkaard and Gullit. If I recall, he was considered the best Keeper at the World Cup in 94 after the tournament, no?

Going back to THAT game. I recall the so called CURSE. People called the radio station to accuse the romanian federation that they were responsible for the elimination because it was the only time we played in RED at that tournament. Why did we play in Red, when Sweden played in white, instead of of their usual yellow and blue.

Another fantastic thing was the goal Kenneth Andersson scored. Remember? It was the 118 minute, a cross and a header, huge mistake of the keeper, Prunea. Prunea played because he was in goal with USA and Argentina, the other games we won to reach the quarter finals, instead of Stelea, who played with Colombia and Switzerland. Stelea”s nickname was/is Arnold, after Arnie, of course. a giant and also a better keeper than Prunea. Pure superstition, we won with Prunea, we can try it again. After that game, Prunea failed to play other game, If I recall. Even in these day, people insult him with that mistake. But I think he doesn”t care, there was a legend that he used to shower alone in the dressing room because other players were to ashamed to be around his ... err ... huge dick.

And my favorite. We blamed it all on FIFA, of course, because after that tournament, the Golden Goal rule was introduced, and as you know, we scored first in that game. We were so upset, that we decided to play a Friendly in 2005, Romania 94 vs Brazil 94, which we won, of course.

Coolest goalkeeper name in the history. One of the first cards I got for my Panini World Cup 1990 album. I think at least.
