That's a given. I was talking about the Championship

'm just wondering why they bothered. It's not as if he's shown anything other than taking them down. It's as if the owner wanted it and then sacked him once the job was done.

Surprising it took so long. I know the owner has no interest now but did he just notice how bad they've been.

Yeah, it's bizarre. Randy Lerner obviously 'saves his cash' for spending on NFL's Cleveland Browns. He could have appointed a 'proven' manager, but appoints Garde, then gives him bugger all cash to spend. Yet he brought in David Bernstein & Adrian Bevington last week...why ???

To oversee the sale. He's taken the TV money for the last few years and spent next to nothing. Very much in the mode of FSG, promised lots of money and that it'd be a sure fire thing after the initial investment (under O'Neill). He's got his money back now so will keep it as a going concern.

Just shows how it can go with the wrong owner/investor.

Indeed Beefy, surprised Bernstein has got involved, he's 72 now....I'm sure he'd want an easy life, like watching Man City from the hospitality box !!
Bet he's there for the PSG game...

And you wonder who needs stopping in this league.

A guy bleeding money away from the PL to fund his actual team, or an owner who has revitalized a club and the surrounding community and poured hundreds of millions into the City without a single hope of seeing the money back.

I've mentioned before on here that he's a Spurs ST holder, so I'm not sure how often he's actually at our games...

To be fair to Lerner he lost his bollox in the 'crash' in 2008. He also voted against FFP, and since it came in he stopped investing as he probably felt he was pissing against the wind.

Yep, a combination of new manager bounce, poor finishing, lucky goalkeeping and yet another stonewall penalty denied did it for us that day.

Thought that was pretty obvious - Villa earnt all that money they were giving to another sport, so that's reasonable, but bringing in dirty oil money to the sanctity of the Premier League and UEFA, both of whom shun money at every chance, is clearly wrong.

As for Villa, they've clearly been planning this for months, not least when they refused to buy anyone in January. For weeks it's looked like time to play the kids who'll at least show some desire and fight, rather than the over the hill mercenaries they've mainly got. That current team will go straight the championship to league one.

Hmm, apart from the last sentence, that last paragraph could have referred to us

Not as bad as Derby in 2007-2008 though, who collected a whopping 11 points in total and got one from us. And, if I remember correctly, they almost beat us away.

Agree and appointing a foreign manager never seems to work for a relegation battle. Hard to rally the troops when you can barely speak the language.

Don't know why Garde doesn't get more stick. Sure the players are useless, but at least show something. Smash a chair, choke a player, or go on a crazy post-game rant. At least then Villa fans will have seen some entertainment. Instead he just sits there and watches some of the worst performances in the last few decades. Never seemed to really care all that much in the first place, and definitely had 0 to negative impact

Timing is strange though. He should have resigned in January after they failed to sign anyone.

Lerner's an American though, he gets a free pass.
