Pellegrini Chalks Up 100th Victory As Manager

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Pellegrini Chalks Up 100th Victory As Manager

Postby Peter Doherty (AGAIG) » Sun Apr 17, 2016 8:09 pm

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini celebrated his 100th win with a 3-0 victory at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea yesterday (Saturday 16 April 2016).

Stats

The 62-year-old Chilean, since taking charge at the Etihad in 2013 has seen his team clinch the 2013/14 Premier League title and League Cup, while earlier this year Manuel witnessed his team capture the Capital One Cup.

All time City win ratio

Since becoming City manager Manuel has not only witnessed his side play 160 times, but like the article indicated at the top of the page, he's won 100, drawn 23 and seen his team slump to a defeat on a mere 37 occasions. These statistics suggest his win percentage, in the modern era is a massive 62.50%.

Top 5 City managers win ratio

While Pellers sits proudly at the top of the pile shall we take a look at his nearest rivals?

Roberto Mancini comes in second place with a win percentage of 59.16%. Between 2009 and prior to making way for Manuel Pellegrini the Italian, out of a total 191 games won 113, drew 38 and lost 40. The current Inter Milan coach also, if one remembers won City their first Premier League title in 2012. He also coached City to victories in the 2010/11 FA Cup and Community Shield in 2012.

In third comes former Manchester United stalwart and Wales coach, Mark Hughes. Between 2008 and 2009 he managed a win ratio of 46.75%. This figure takes into account of him winning 36 matches, drawing 16 and losing 25, out of a total of 77 games.

Fourth - Kevin Keegan (2001 - 2005)

During his City stint the former Liverpool legend took charge of 176 City games, winning 77, drawing 39 and losing 60. The figures show his win ratio was 43.75%.

Finally, Joe Royal (1998 - 2001) has a win percentage just a few digits behind Keegan (43.02%). Big Joe saw MCFC win 74, draw 47 and lose 51 games. His total managerial matches in Blue was 172.

Figures, courtesy of managerstats.com

I for one will shed a tear when Manuel Pellegrini leaves Manchester City Football Club. However, and similar to one of Kevin Keegan rants whilst at Newcastle United...

I would just love it, I mean love it if Pellers final game in charge was when the club won the Champions League Final. WOW, what a send-off that would be!

The future?

Goodbye Manuel - as we wave cheerio in the summer and in doing so, welcome Pep Guardiola, (the so-called best manager in the world), I just wonder if he will be able to compete with Pellegrini's stats.

He can be frustrating at times but he lets his record speak for him. I'm excited about what's to come but for the first half of my life I never dreamed I'd see City where they are now. So Mr Pellegrini, Sir, well done and thank you. Shame half our fans can't be so charming and forget where they came from.

What a record.

Some of the disrespectful shit that has been said about him on here really was a shame.

Regardless of how the season finishes, I've liked the calmness he brought to the club. Probably the right manager at the right time, but I have found this season to be a general disappointment.
However, is it possible that he has us peaking at just the right time.
We can dare to dream, but I think it would be a wonderful send of for him if we could end on a high with the CL.
No negative media bias could put a bad slant on it, as far as I'm concerned. It would be the perfect end to his contract.

Has us as top scorers once again.
2nd best defence
Amazing considering the amount of losses we have had this season. Pellets is a legend but a stubborn twat who makes some baffling decisions over the season.

I think as a fan we are entitled to slag, abuse, or dish out acolades whenever we see fit - from the first match of the season to the last match ,thats our right as a fan.

This season has been weird and underwhelming - it could still turn out to end a cracker.

4th and we go out of the CL SF or Final, will be classed as an ok season.

5th and we go out of the CL SF or Final , will be classed as a fuckign disaster of a season.

Win the CL - regardless where we end up in the League, and Pellegrini will rightly be a hero.

Fine margins, but as far as Im concerned, we shouldnt have been battling for fuckign 3rd or 4th for the past 3 months ffs.

Love the bloke, and why not. Yes, he frustrates me with his selections and tactics at times but when you look at what we have achieved, overall he's done a good job.

I can complain that we did poorly in the league this season but some consideration has to go to injuries which sometimes set the selection and tactics.

Now, if he gets to the final of the CL, as if a semi is not good enough, and guarantees us CL football (3rd), I'll be over the fucking moon.

Let's see what comes.
In the words of my Old Man, "Life will never be the same without Man City, so get it in while you can".

I was waiting 35 years for a pot until 2011.
No way is this season a disaster - we won the LC.
If its 5th and we don't win the CL - I might classify that as disappointing (and only because I am spoilt rotten).
We need to be careful that we don't morph into Rags:).

Why are you dismissing the possibility of finishing second or third?

A decent season for someone with a 54 percent win record in the league. Sorry for wanting perfection. (Actually I'm not, given he achieved 71 percent in the league last season).

Overall he's on 63% in the league, win the rest of our games this season and that goes to 64%. There's only been two managers in PL history that can better that.

It's a pity that those wins last season and the season before don't count towards our points total this season then.

Isn't it just. Only fair though isn't it to acknowledge his record over his whole tenure when judging him?

It depends what he's being criticised for.

It ultimately doesn't matter what any of us think - the decision has been made and the change is coming.
