Pep will have seen a lot of him and must rate him highly , Big problem signing a player with a serious knee injury though surely ?

Could be a bargain for £20m....hopefully!

Not a massive amount.

IT wasn't a ligament injury, just a displaced knee cap. It's annoying he won't be ready for pre season though. Might be unavailable till September.

Bit of a concern that he has missed the last two tournaments due to serious injury. Seems like he is a better version of Milner or Delph in that his job is to break up play, harry and chase and provide a link to the creative players.

That said, these days £20m is not expensive so I reckon it could be a good bit of business

Is he our first Turk? I know we have Anal Urinal out on loan but he hasn't played for us yet. Am I missing someone?

Though he was born in Turkey, is he not a German National citizen as he represents them?

In 2013 he had a serious injury that kept him out for 14 months. Not off and on but 14 months solid. He now has another long term injury and has been in and out through injury in the meantime. He I would be a similar signing to Delph but there is no way the new regime would be stupid enough to sign him. These days are behind us.

I think he'll be ace*

He was the fulcrum when Dortmund mullered Us 1-1 a few yrs back.

Sticking my neck out a litte .... Hes a rich mans Veratti when you can't get Veratti.

*20m seems cheap unless he is out of contract or Dortmund know more about his injuries

Think he has a year to run.

That injury record doesn't fill me with confidence. I have a feeling we'll get a player who does very well once when fit but more often than not we will find ourselves say "if only Gundo was fit"

The £20m is nothing these days btw. With the new TV deal I think we will see clubs like Stoke and spend 20-30 mil on players

He could be a steal, entering the last year of his contract - think the first long term injury was back related so hopefully that one has cleared up, maybe Pep knows a 'good' Dr who can cure him permanently

A very good signing and will be one of our key players. It is just the question is can we keep him fit for long periods of the season

Dortmund have struggled a lot without him this season (as much as one can struggle and still only lose 4 times in the league). not able to keep the ball as well as they normally do (he has avg 88% pass accuracy of which 69% were forward) and it was really apparent in the cup final vs Bayern this weekend.

he did have a major back injury a few years ago and since then he's been as injury-free as virtually any normal player (which means a few niggles here and there)....until now with the kneecap injury.

he doesnt score very many goals though (shot accuracy approx 39-44%) so if he's the Yaya replacement then we'd be losing that. he will create a good amount of chances (a little over 1 per match) even if he doesnt get the final assist though.

gutted he's leaving Dortmund but happy, that since he is, it'll be to City.

Queue "He's a living sick note, have we learned nothing?" comments...

Which we will be hearing all summer given two of our likely targets.

He is not a goal scoring threat like Yaya, but we won't be putting out Navas in the starting eleven anymore, surely, and whoever that player is will certainly be a threat to score.

We may also sign Pogba or Kroos to play in central midfield and that would solve the scoring problem quite easily.

This is correct, hence the low-ish fee. Good piece of business, compared what will be thrown around this summer for less talented players.

The injury is unfortunate, but we were close to signing him anyway just before. Maybe we got a few extra mil-pounds off, and surely put appearances in as one of the add-ons.

true re: Navas.

Also, if we sign Kroos or Pogba along with Gundogan im curious to see what the midfield looks like when everyone is fit.
Gundogan typically plays alongside a holding midfielder behind a midfield 3 & a striker. at City that'll be Aguero, David, Kevin & someone which would mean Kroos or Pogba would be the defensive midfielder? unless we force Kevin and David both out wide and put Gundogan in the No. 10 spot. it'll be interesting. good thing is, I'm pretty sure Gundogan played alongside Kroos at one of the last tournaments when Khedira was out injured.
