Liverpool topped the 89-team table with an average position of 3.32, buoyed by their phenomenal success during the 1970s and 80s.
Ahead of this season, Manchester United were in second place but, after Arsenal finished second in the 2015/16 Premier League and United only managed fifth, the Gunners have drawn level with the Red Devils.
http://www.skysports.com/football/news/ ... nd-arsenalThey finally found a way to get the old teams back on top. Pathetic!

'Over the past 50 years' - I suppose it's no coincidence that that period starts shortly after Liverpool returned to Division 1 after an 8-year spell in Division 2?

Pure coincidence. And there's no way the whole idea for this has come from a history-loving scouser either...
It is pathetic but they can keep their history, we will write the future.

The old saying "lies, damned lies and statistics" rings very true here. What exactly are they trying to prove?
I'm more interested in the next 50 years not the last 50......................

So I do an ultimate table over the last 5 years were you get 4 pts for finishing first and 1 pt for finishing 4th and
Man city 15
Arsenal 9
Chelsea 8
Rags 8
Leicester 4
Spurs 3
Liverpool 3
You can do anything you like when you change the goal posts to suit yourself

Good work if you can get it. Imagine it was a slow news day and the editor, either a rag or dipper or even both having changed allegiance in the 90s, said i wonder how we can try to spin this shit season. I know, lets go back through history when we were good and compile a league table based on that.

If you're going to do it, why not do it since the league was first formed? Or did that put another small team with no history on top?

The rags spent the majority of the pre-WW2 years in Division 2.
