A bit of a strange one. Is it really that much of a step up for him.

With their new owner they've been making noises about having money to burn, so I guess he wanted a transfer budget.

Budgets will be similar. He has gone for the money and who can blame him?

It's a real coup for Everton in my opinion. When he took over at Saints a number of his best players left but he still made a succes of it. They play decent football too at St Mary's. I had a spell where I really loved Southampton....it was around May 1976.

Martinez was highly thought of before he went to Everton, will be interesting to see if it marks the death knell of Koeman's promising managerial career

Apparently a 3x raise for a very similar job. Anyone would be crazy to turn it down. Only problem is you have to live in liverpool

When you weigh it all up, he could do better.

I think it tells you all you need to know about Southampton's ambition.

He's setting himself up to be ready for the United job when Mo goes in 3 years time.

From May 24th.

Had he left after last season, he would've been mentioned in connection with the top clubs. I'm not sure he gets the same type of chances after this season and although he certainly has his fault, and has lost points because of these faults, I still feel he's been undermined by his looming departure and the lack of a replacement for Yaya.

I have to agree with Coco Jambo here, he's not getting a top club job. I think Kenwright will be looking for a long term replacement rather than a guy after one last job.

You guys are shortbus special, you know that?

Said it once, said it 1000 times, listen to Slim!

Regardless of who is manager there, they are small fry and wont be troubling the top echelons of the table.

Nope, sometime in January just before the announcement. The moment he realised he was being replaced was the end of the line.

Budgets will not be similar, as I said he has been making noises about having money to spend.

"...There is much to be done and things for me to learn, but I can confirm that I have committed to providing additional funds for transfers and retaining our key players to ensure that we have a strong core to build on for the future..."

This was apparently an excerpt from an interview he gave which appeared in their FA cup quarter final match programme according to the Mirror. They are no longer a selling club if he is to be believed, and will be active in the market this summer (which remains to be seen).
