Aaron Mooy has signed (and unsigned)

It seems this oft-rumoured signing has taken place. Swapped for Brattan and Caceres, neither of whom was ever going to play for us but are part of some imaginative accounting deal.

Mooy is class, far and away above anyone else in his team or even the A league. The problem of course is that everything around him was terrible. But at 25 he isn't here to 'develop' so watch this space.

Here's one of many articles:

Manchester City have signed Australia international midfielder Aaron Mooy from sister club Melbourne City.

The 25-year-old has agreed a three-year deal at the Etihad, according to the Australian side.

City's Brian Marwood told Melbourne City's official website: "Aaron is an extremely talented player who possesses the attributes we hope to foster and encourage within the City Football Group.

"Aaron's move to Manchester allows us to further expose him to a high standard of opportunities to ensure his professional growth."

Melbourne head coach John van't Schip said: "Aaron was a fantastic contributor. He is deserving of his new opportunity and we wish him all the best for the future."

Fellow midfielders Luke Brattan and Anthony Caceres will head in the opposite direction on loan for the forthcoming season.

If anyone hasn't watched him and Melbourne, I should say he plays in midfield, tackles people, runs with the ball and scores a lot of goals.

Unlike most of our recent midfielders in many ways.

Where will he be loaned to? Netherlands, Belgium or maybe even Spain or Italy?

Can't see it with this one.

The only thing is, with the bizarre signing of the other Aussies who were clearly no good, it may be a financial thing to make 5 or 10 million. But I suspect he will play this one.

Marwood's comments suggest to me that the intention is to loan him.

I may be wrong but if the intention is for him to be part of our first team squad I can't help but think he would have worded what he said differently.

I see what you mean but the guy is 25.

Suggests to me more confirmation that Marwood is an idiot. Or lying. Or both.

He will not be loaned to 'develop', but to find a European club for him, because he is not good enough for Manchester City. Why going through City? I guess this kind of shenanigans is the upside for the other clubs that are part of the CFG and their players.

Let's be real here. Aaron Mooy will not play a minute for Manchester City. For one, the club has yet to acknowledge this transfer in any form (OS, twitter), while Melbourne confirmed it 10 hours ago. What kind of way is that to treat a 'proper' new signing? A-League to PL & CL title challenge is also a huge step-up and Mooy is 25 years old, not really a kid any more. Defo a loan coming up.

It would be very interesting to see the accounting behind these deals as I'm struggling to see what's the point in these transfers.

I see that today we sold that Lejeune (?) bloke to Eibar for 1.2mil which of course is more cash to the bank account but surely the sell on fees are too low to make these worth all the hassle?

Oh and no way this Mooy is gonna play a single minute for MCFC

When you add up all the little fees though, it's coming to 20-odd million or more per year. Fofana was what, 3.5M last week?

I've seen Mooy play, I'm not so sure either way.

This kind of has an accountancy feel to it. Advertise him in preseason, then loan him with a view to selling. I can't really recall his performance but I must have seen him in an international or two.
