sunderland build up thread

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

sunderland build up thread

Postby Nigels Tackle » Mon Aug 08, 2016 11:55 am

the only sure thing about saturday is that city64 will be heading into town around midday and supping c10 pints before kick off. #ultimatelad

other than that who the fuck knows?! wondering if we might see kun and navas at centrehalf?

match facts:

we've played sunderland 24 times in the premier league
won 16 (10 home 6 away)
lost 5 (all away)
drawn 3

referee - tbc

tv - live on bt sports @ 1730

match odds:
home win is around the 1/5 mark
away win 10+/1 (15s available from 888.sport and 32win)
draw 5/1

(given the shambles i've seen on show so far, i'm tempted to whack £20 on gollum's boys)

It will be the most eagerly awaited team selection in quite a long time.
Pep to spring a few surprises.

What we do know is that Moyes will set up defensively and look to pinch a goal from a set piece or breakaway via a long ball down the middle. No excuse for not being prepared for that.

No point in watching.

Definite loss. Same again next week.

We've been terrible so far this season.

Extrrmely excited about the attacking part of our lineup, clueless about the defense. Unless Pep has been secretly training our CBs, I don't really know what's going on.

I always figured that you'd need at least 1 preseason game with your starting defensive lineup but Peps the genius... Funny because if any other manager started Kolarov at CB one week before the season starts, we'd be calling for his head.

the thing im interested in is how Pep approaches this with the HUGE match a few short days later.
aside from the back line I can easily see the players who started vs Arsenal starting vs Sunderland.
I'm not really a City fan. I'm just here for attention.

I didn't bother watching any football on Sunday. Not interested in what that other shower get up to pre-season and I can't figure out what kind of an off-season and preseason preparation we've had. On the face of it, I'm underwhelmed with our signings because, God knows when we'll see them all play together if ever in some cases.
So I've kind of tuned out and will save judgement for Saturday and the coming month. I think things could be rocky up until the end of Septmber or so, by which time hopefully we will start to see what Pep is made of. I just hope we don't do anything stupid like lose the CL qualifier.
Despite how pesimistic that may sound, I'm actually looking forward to this season with more anticipation than any season I can remember. I have faith that Pep will pull us together as a team for this season and many more to come.

As for Saturday. I'd be happy to scrape a 1-0.

Shouldn't be a problem. We can beat Sunderland without a defense as long as we are alive up front and score.

Yep. Can't see Sane starting as he hasn't played single minute with us yet and I think KDB is so far behind in preseason that he will start on the bench too. Both decent options to have on the bench as well. So Serge, Silva, Sterling, Nolito. Fern1 will 100% start too and probably in midfield?

But apart from that I really don't have a clue. Maybe he'll just put Zabba and clichy as the only defenders and then fill the squad with midfielders

Hart
Zabba Clichy
Fern1 Yaya Fern2 Delph
Sterling Silva Nolito
Aguero

After yesterdays mind numbing shambles reality could smack us all in the face around 7.30pm Saturday night with the fact Pep is actually a crank !

2-1 City , thank fuck for Aguero and Silva and KDB , they will carry us over the line and 3 pts.

I am having a booze no matter what ! :-D

Exactly. And the next match as well I am not too worried.

We are fortunate in that we do not have the worst fixture list to start the season compared to some other clubs.

Stoke could be tricky, although glad we are there in August and not February, however the back end of the CL qualifier at home hopefully will be a respite before West Ham at home.
