Tactics - theory and analysis

Some fascinating reads about tactics on the http://spielverlagerung.com website. Here are links to articles about City and our opponents in the PL and the CL this season:

I'm much more confident about our season in Europe now after reading some of these enlightening articles and I can see exactly why Yaya didn't make the CL squad (too lethargic) and how he'll be useful against some of the less tactically aware managers and weaker teams in the PL in order to give Pep's star players a rest.

Plenty more on the site, including tactical analyses from previous seasons.

Credit to Wonderwall for bringing it to my attention.

Any similar sites out there?

Spielverlagerung emerged as a German equivavelent to the very popular zonalmarking.net some years ago.

Unfortunately, the latter is not updated regularly anymore, but the author Michael Cox is writing for The Guardian, ESPN and FourFourTwo now.

Of course, there is Jonathan Wilson. Everyone with any interest in tactics in football (and formations specifically) should read his book 'Inverting the Pyramid'. His writing with a focus on Eastern European football is superb as well. He also writes for The Guardian and others and has founded the football zine The Blizzard.

If anyone is a podcaster. I think the City Watch podcast new "four four two" series provides some good tactical insight. Nothing that's blown me away but they have been able to provide some good insight into peps approach.

Came across that site a couple of weeks ago and some really good analysis.

Although not as good as Sutton complaining about Bravo clapping - that was really insightful

Yeah me too. I think I posted a link to the review of the Sunderland game here, now that I think about it.

Intriguing stuff.
