Not that much training into them? Or just poor takers?

Mario and Yaya were class, though.

Four out of eight have been missed. That is poor at the top level. I just don't understand how some of the best players in the world, with a free shot, can't just place it into the top corner where it is unsaveable. Think Ray Stewart of West Ham or le Tissier. Our own Balo or Yaya like PP mentions were excellent penalty takers.

Hopefully it's just a blip but I seem to recall Aguero missed a few last year as well. Silva for me should take penalties as he seems to be able to put a ball where he wishes and would have little trouble in slotting it into the top corner

Was going to start this thread today!

Something needs to be done about it.

10000000% Aguero needs to be taken away from penalty duties from now on. He's missing them constantly, and he needs to realise he's just not good at them. Joe Hart is better!

We've had Tevez that hardly missed one, Balo that never missed one - and now we have this shit.

I think if you're a professional footballer and you can't score a penalty you need to be either fined or taken to the centre circle, stripped naked, and we can bring Yaya back on to sort you out.

Sergio should not be taking another one this season. Four misses already this season for a player of his ability is shocking. Silva for me on pen duty from now on.

Haha, sorry pal. Next time is yours.

Now, on the subject. I think world class playes do not train that much on taking penalties. I am thinking at Messi and what a shithouse he is on taking penalties, Mullers also has really poor penalties.

Heard there that they were giving the Milner example of taking penalties, but the media forgot he was taking many of them at Villa. Also same with Gazbaz. I think at this moment, worldwide, only Tranny and Suarez are really deadly when it comes down to penners.

And about Aguero, like someone said yesterday, he needs to stop making that slow step he does before he shots. It is piss poor. I think Kola should take penners, but he also missed the last one.

Both of them were attempting the top corner yesterday and under hit them. For me penalties should always be hard and low to either side.

Aguero did have a good penalty record until that miss against Barca a couple of seasons back, since then he's been dodgy.

Silvas finishing and set prices are terrible. Id have thought kev would be the natural choice but clearly not.

From memory Ian has a similar style to balo and Yaya's so was disappointed to see him miss out.

Either method works well. 50% conversion rate is poor though whichever way you look at it. Sunday league forwards would be mocked for that.

Maybe the penalty takers are trying too hard to be clever in second guessing the goalie instead of focusing on where they are going to put the ball.

Cant get over Silva missing that penalty against Southampton (first season they were promoted) was a real weak effort. I don't know who the answer is though not unless we sign Bonucci

Hit them anywhere but those 2 yesterday and you probsbly score. Anelka was superb as well as Mario and Yaya.

Penno's should be taken like Franny and Carlotto took them. So hard that even if the keeper gets behind then, both end up in the back of the net.
Everyone is praising Ballo on pens, and moaning about Kun's stuttery run ups, but that's exactly what Ballo used to do.

Then again penalties may be Navas's hidden talent.

Has Nolito any record of taking penalties ??

He seems such a focused type that he might be worth a try ??

Fernandinho may be the answer. Or of course Ian Nacho, who should've taken the first yesterday

No way. Missed a lot for Shakhtar and also missed the only pen for us, in the Carling Cup final.

I wonder how is Zaba at this.

Silva would be a TERRIBLE choice imo. Nacho deserves a chance to show what he can do...he's got miles more composure in front of goal than most of the others.
