That fourth goal for Brazil, against Italy, in the 1970 Final seemed to set the seal on a brilliant display by the South Americans and also seemed a fitting closure to what had been a fine World Cup, against all the concerns expressed prior to it, about the problems of heat and altitude.

You're right about him being ahead of his time and, if he had been playing today, I'm sure he would have fitted in perfectly with Pep's requirements.

An excellent player and, as you say, a sad day for football.

I remember that world cup and they were just about the best team ever. It was also England's best team in my opinion with players like Colin Bell.

Can't argue with that.

Although England lost to Brazil 1-0 in the Group stages, they played some really nice football and the overall technical quality of that game was at a particularly high level.......and then there was The Banks Save.

Since then, there have been ups and downs in the quality of England sides but the general ongoing trend has been perpetually downwards, until we reach the deep, deep trough we're now consigned to.

By some margin the greatest goal I have ever seen. It's a thing of true beauty. From the defence right through to him leathering the ball home. It's spine-tingling every time I see it.

That third Brazilian goal (Jairzhino) always reminds me of a Liverpool goal from the Toshack-Keegan era.

As for the fourth 'screamer'; didn't he leather it well ??
