In the right team and system he does well.
I still don't consider Boateng as a good defender though.
You attack the centre of Bayerns defence and they don't know what to do.
My opinion.

Correct.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Some people have VERY short memories. Dunne was sold at least year and a half TOO LATE. It was painfull to watch City legend to be as poor as he was in the end.

Didn't he get "Player of the Year" the season before we sold him?

Not a selling blunder, but a not buying blunder - Figo when we were offered him for like £2 million back in the day!

Which was absolutely ridiculous. I've never been as shocked.

Biggest mistake we made was not letting him go to Barca after that first relegation. We ruined his career by convincing him to stay on.

Will always cherish that boy.

Blessed as I am with a generous spirit I naturally contributed within the limits of the more expansive thread title. (I didn't read the OP either :)

But at the same time, it was very hard to be a defender under Hughes. I think we all agree that when Pellegrini came in three years ago it put defenders in a exposed position which for example Nasty could not cope with. Yet that was nothing compared to our defence under Hughes. I'm not saying that you're wrong in saying that Dunne was not as good anymore but still, it's hard to determine since Hughes at times seemed to have no plan for the defence what so ever and liked to have six or seven players storm the box.

Just like with Hart this season, keeping Dunne on for a year or so in a part time role would not have damaged our position (if Dunne would have accepted such a deal of course)

Definitely, a rugged asset these days for Atletico and could have been for us, better than the Mangler and has probably overtaken Otamendi now as well.
Seller remorse in order, bought for £10m given away on a free to Fiorentina, so that should be disposer remorse.
We're putting together a decent team still playing at top level here
- Hart, Trippier, Savic, Boateng, Mee, Clayton, Whelan, Nasri, Barry, Negredo, Sturridge, Balotelli....5 of them club trained too
OK - I know, I know

It might have if he got on the field. Rose tinted specs and all that mate, Dunney was not a top class defender he was an old-fashioned blood and guts hoof it away merchant, with the OG record thrown in. Ideal for us at the time with our position, but never going to move up with us.

I don't think Hart was sold for footballing reasons, just an inkling.

Savic looked stink at City and Boateng but both have gone on to prove themselves and find success at top clubs. Although i never enjoyed either playing for us they could be looked at as blunders now.

Niall Quinn was a blunder we could have really done with keeping him at the time and he went on to have a few great seasons with Sunderland. He bagged a fair few goals with them and Kevin Phillips would never have scored half as many if he was not feeding off of Quinn.

I seem to remember we had to get him and Curle off the wage bill on relegation. I think the princely sums of 6 and 9k per week were mentioned. LOL
