Rags poach 2 City scouts in academy revamp

Postby JamieMCFC » Tue Nov 29, 2016 5:08 pm

Manchester United have recruited two academy scouts from Manchester City, a source close to the scouting process has told ESPN FC.

The Daily Telegraph earlier reported that the City scouts in question, Dave Harrison and Lyndon Tomlinson, are currently on gardening leave and will begin their new roles on Jan. 1.

United have been in the process of overhauling their academy setup, with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward keen to improve it. With City having made strides in bringing highly rated youth talent to Manchester, United are looking to stop their rivals from stealing a march on them.

A new-look scouting operation is in place at United, with Marcel Bout having been promoted as part of the restructuring. Bout is head of global scouting, working alongside chief scout Jim Lawlor.

Warren Joyce, who had been responsible for helping to nurture much of United's young talent as the under-21 boss, left the club on Nov. 2 to become Wigan Athletic's manager.

Bit late for that I would have thought.

I thought that too.

There's certainly work to be done, with their U15s just losing 9-0 to our lads

A kid looking at City's set up...and then looking at two nonces that have gone to the rags. Tough choice for the kid to make.

Aahh, Taxus baccata, my favourite conifer of all (apart from Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Nana Gracilis').

If they've been accused of something but still maintain their innocence, they could become ' The horticultural two'......with the Scum stealing a leaf out of the Dippers' book by lighting candles for them.

We'll have to keep an eye on events; this could be big........

Wasn't this reported a while ago, that's why the 2 were on gardening leave?

Rags and Dippers poaching our scouting dept. Who'd have fucking believed it!

I would love to know if we wanted to keep them or if we are not bothered. I wouldon't imagine this is quite a coup for Utd. I don't ever want them getting anything from us.

The main thing is that they don't get the opportunity to walk off with the database, and that's the primary reason they're being poached.

They'll be paid handsomely but as the Rags Academy is way behind, they're just paying for knowledge at the moment. Putting it into practice, and actually getting the upper hand, will take years.

When the Rags are putting their own kids in our Academy, rather than the Rags, it says that families choose the right option, not the only one. They'll get the ones we do not want, we will always have first pick from now on.

Quite possibly on 3 months' notice and/or in their contract that they don't join another club for a period of time such as 3 months after resigning. (Odd word isn't it "resign"? - a contronym - sign on again or leave!)

If they poach Txiki Begiristain I'll be a bit worried.

At the moment though it's difficult to imagine many more kids being fitted into our academy, which seems to be dominant at all levels. So I wont lose any sleep just yet.

here's Lyndon Tomlinson - the scum's new youth co-ordinator - watching the grass grow, he came to us in October 2014 with a Geordie law degree

Image

and here's Dave Harrison, originally from Leeds Utd - a face you can trust

Dave's CV is pretty impressive

"Academy Scouting Manager -Manchester City Football Club
January 2009 – Present (7 years 11 months)
A well organised, hard-working and trustworthy team player with a can do attitude. Over 20 years of coaching and recruitment experience within academy football, working with over £32million worth of professional players. I am an excellent communicator, a team builder who leads by example and have confidence in my ability to make decisions and also work on my own initiative. I work well under pressure and have a flexible approach to the working week. I am confident in my ability to recognise and identify top professional, international talent and trust in my decision to recruit them. I have excellent knowledge on scout 7 and experience reporting on players from age 9 – senior level."

looks like he's been on the market for a while with his 'can do attitude'

Both 'highly regarded' at least by their mothers, whether Swamp Youth Supremo Nicky Butt will be impressed is another matter lol

That story is an integrity free zone, it's essentially just free editorial copy for an MUFC advertising feature. To describe the Birmingham City reject Tomlinson as 'instrumental' in building City's academy is simply a rag paid lie - you can see the swamp snake Ducker in all his slithering slime on the Suppository thread this week talking about wonderful Wayne's world. (If your stomach is strong enough.)
