One has to smile at the Sky statistical verdict on Southgate

'the only manager to be appointed without a major title to his credit, Sam Allardyce won the championship with Limerick.....'.
yes folks, the barrel has been scraped into matchsticks, Southgate can't even match that staggering lack of achievement.

I never understand why the FA give England managers long contracts all the time.

They almost always terminate the managers' contracts early and end up having to pay them out.

They should just give them a 2 year contract and evaluate their performance after the next World Cup/Euros. Then they get an extension based on how well they do.

all about the pay off when they get the boot. it's a fucking joke. should have just said to southgate that it's a 2 year deal with a £3m pay off when we fail in russia.

Well, why the hell not? I've a funny feeling that he might do just as well, if not better, than some of the other bright sparks in recent past

"Gareth has been captain at every club he ever played with.... I think that tells you something".

Yeah, that he never played for a top club.

The best part of it is that he said he didn't necessarily want the job full time when he took over as caretaker. Why Gareth, you got a lot of other shit going on?

And then he takes it at the first sniff.
On lower wages.

Brilliant. Start as you mean to go on mr. Partridge

To be fair I think Villa were still half decent.

That aside it never fails to amaze me how the media and so called experts see some sort of correlation between being a good player and a good manager. If anyone is both it is mostly coincidental.

Latest point in question is Gerard. Every fucker talking about what a superb manager he will make. How on God's earth do they know? Or anyone know. Most people in that category fail lamentably and end up as pundits anyway. There are so many examples of that it's untrue. And no-mark players who make great managers. Not too surprising really, totally different job.

Agreed

Cannot do worse than any of the others before him since what '90 (W/C) & '96 when we hosted Euros!!! Has done alright with the U21 and i think a young manager is about the only thing the FA haven't done, so why not give it a bash?

IF it goes tits up then at least we'll would saved ourselves the usual build up only to be on an early flight back before the group stages are finished.

Bring it on Southgate, expectations are at their lowest in my house hold regards to England, my lad went to Scotland game other week and i didn't even bother watching the game on TV, not even for old times sake when playing the swetties meant something.

Perhaps we're all being a little harsh with regard to Southgate.

England are a mediocre international side, so we might as well have a mediocre manager.

Rooney as captain ??????
Failure for GS already.... a very good player in his prime and his goalscoring record proves it.
However, we have to stop talking about him, now, it's over !!!
