Needs to be sorted ASAP (it's been the same for the past 3 years now) and Pep obviously doesn't fancy either of the kids so who is out there and realistically who would come?
We missed the boat with that Sandro when Juve signed him.
Anymore knocking about that are decent?

Danny Rose being mentioned by the papers this morning for the sum of 25 million.

I am still holding out hope that the only reason we stopped the tactic of the full backs tucking in was that pep intended them positions to be filled by Fernandinho and Delph and the only reason he abondened it was the injury to delph, Yaya's ahent mouthing off and some of ferns performances in midfield

Fullbacks? We have tons of fullbacks who are adequate if played in back four and practically no suitable centerbacks besides Kompany who is physically done.

Clichy is good enough? Kolarov is good enough? Sagna is good enough? Zaba is good enough?
The answer you're looking for is no.

Zaba is good enough. Clichy is reasonable if not ideal. Sagna is ok.
However:
Otamendi
Stones
.
.
.
wait besides Kompany that's all our senior centerbacks and they are both pretty terrible.

So out of our first choice senior players:-
Bravo - not good enough
Caballero - (?)
Zabba - Good enough
Kolarov - Not good enough
Clichy - ok at a push
Sagna - ok
Otter - Not good enough
Stones - Not good enough
Kompany - Good enough, but is rarely fit
Big job on next couple of years then

If we're settling with 'ok' and 'reasonable' then that's the reason we're not moving forward.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. What's worrying is that not only do we need quality at centerback, we also need quantity. Ideally at least two quality centerbacks, then experienced back up (that could be Kompany) and then at least one promising youngster (that could be Stones). And that is IF we revert back to back four. If we keep on playing back three, then we'd need six centerbacks. Traditional fullbacks, which is just about every fullback we got, are usually poor when asked to move in more central role.

Pep, has to play with what he has, combined appearances must be thousands or so amongst our fullbacks. So no mugs. Play them in a system that suits. If is is short term so be it, getting a Barca like way with players who have no future here is asking for the trouble we have, if he continues with it more pain and some 0-3 or 4s for being a stubborn fooker.

The only ones I would keep would be Stones (simply because we spent so much on him and he has potential) and possibly Zaba. Ideally Vinny but I think we all know that his career is effectively over.
The rest aren't good enough and need shipping out.
I really thought this would be the season where we saw Angelino and Maffeo promoted to the starting XI seeing as we didn't buy any fullbacks in the summer, but for some reason Pep doesn't fancy them. Strange really as I thought Maffeo was MOTM at the swamp in the EFL Cup

I am saying this for over a year now, Ricardo Rodriguez from Wolfsburg has a release clause, i think for 25 milion.
Young, quality, knows how to defender and has a deadly shot from free kick. Also has speed. Sign him up. it will be money well spent.
OR
Maffeo and Angelino look good, people who watched EDS in the past know what are they capable of. Put them in, what can go more wrong than this? Bellerin came from nowhere.

im really, really not trying to start anything so please dont go there....but have you actually watched him play a lot for Wolfsburg? admittedly i have not; I've only seen him a handful of times. yet everything I've heard from bundesliga writers is that he is not a great defender....that he's basically Kolarov but younger and maybe slightly better.

Yes
I like him. I used to watch a lot Wolfsburg in the season they finished near Bayern and Tin Tin was there. Watched a few games last year, but more because of Draxler, which i really like and Rodriguez was constant for me.
One of their best players in a squad that played mediocre at tops. This year I did not watch him, but at the Euro i paid a lot of attention to his form. He would fit here.
My guess is that Pep knows him very well. He was linked with PSG to replace Maxwell, no idea what happend though.

We need prototypical centerback. None of that "attacking centerback" nonsense but someone who is world class at stopping players going past him and good in the air.

No one is saying we don't. We also need fullbacks as well.

Sadly, it appears what the majority of fans want and what Pep wants from a centre half, are two different things.
