In the summer Leicester will most probably have a mass exodus. Would Danny Drinkwater be a option for our middle? I don't think we would pay more than 20 mil for him at this moment.

Rather we didn't. Unless it includes Delle Ali and Harry Kane. Who we then sell on.

Genuine question but how good and how technically accomplished is this Alderweirdo guy ??

I've never actually rated him as being anything more than just moderately average; not particularly bad but nothing special either. Don't know if I'm being overly dismissive of his abilities but what does he bring to the table; what are his strengths, is he a good organiser, is he a Pep player ?? Does he look good playing alongside indifferent players ??

Can someone enlighten me and would he be the one to strengthen our defence appreciably and be a significant part of the spine of our side ??

i am of the opinion that he's by far the best central defender in the premier league and, upon brief reflection, i can't think of 5 better CBs in the world than him right now.

and, aside from Busquets, there's no other deep-lying CM i'd want in the premier league more than Dembele.

but, hey, that's just my 2¢

I like Dembele, but he is far too injury prone (perfect for us you might say!) he rarely completes 90 mins when he does start.

Alderweireld is a very good centre half. Certainly an instant improvement on what we have. But not at that price Phips

OK, from some of your comments I'm prepared to accept that Alderweirdo is a reasonably decent centre back but - and this is still a genuine question - what are his strengths; is he commanding in the air, is he a footballing defender in the Pep mould, is he tactically and positionally aware, is he sound in the tackle, is he a defensive organiser etc. etc. ??

I've never scrutinised him in detail so, apart from anything else, what weaknesses does he have and can these, if any, be catered for in a correctly set-up defensive unit ??

I rate Alderweireld - first and foremost he is a good defender, can distribute the ball (so you'd think he'd fit well in Pep's system) and seems to be a good organiser of the back 4. Can't help but feel we missed a trick when Spuds got him for £13m the same summer we paid £28m for Ottamendi. He is far better than any of our current centre backs (apart form a fit Vinny) and I'd have no qualms about spending £25m on him. Don't think Spurs would be willing to sell at that price though

I appreciate your synopsis freshie; thanks for that.

I hadn't paid much detailed attention to him previously, so I guess I'm going to have to in the future, particularly if he might be a transfer target for us at some point.

I just wonder how commanding is he though, in the air, as PL defenders still have to deal quite a bit with this kind of attack ??

However, thanks again for your post.

obviously 100m for the 2 is incredibly high and overpriced but i came up with that number due to Daniel Levy's notorious "negotiation tactics". its all in fun anyways as there's no way anything close to this happens
