we should be aiming to hit the £1.5bn mark

That data covers up to 2013/14, so have we already?

Gunn, Henrichs, Kolarov, Fernandinho, Gundogan, Sterling, Mbappé

8 new players. Ok.

average age of that lot (based on recent rotations of the rumour mill) would be only 23, down from 28.5 currently!

Well, a bit more strange speculation perhaps.Unless there are some late surprises 6 are out of contract - Yaya, Clichy, Zabba, Willy, Navas and Sagna and I can't see our 4 principal loanees coming back. So my prediction is it's adios to them and our other Argies too, including Sergio sadly. Vinny looks to be out of the picture next season as well along with Bravo and possibly other current first team squad members. So 8 new faces could be a conservative estimate. It would be unusual for such a big influx but Watford managed to recruit double that number a couple of years back.

I think 8 new players sounds about right.

It's exactly right for that lineup but this isn't championship manager

CityWatch podcast, reluctantly, voted that we sell Aguero in either a 3-1 or 4-1 vote last week.

Their argument was that Pep wants to develop Jesus by playing him fairly regularly, and he cannot do that with a 29 year old Aguero where if he is dropped for 2-3 games the English media will be going crazy and it will be a distraction. They seemed to suggest Mbappe would be the target and not someone like Aubameyang because there would not be as much of an issue with he and Jesus rotating due to their age.

They also suggested that Kun is our only highly valued player we might sell now so it would help fund other purchases.

My issue is that Mbappe is probably going to cost as much as we sell Kun for and is he really a proven enough player for such a price? Jesus was fantastic for when he played, but he did not get that many games. The season is long and consistency for young players I feel is usually a bigger question mark, and we are then relying on a very young front line.

They also voted that we put Nacho out on loan next season to either a Prem club, or CL club, or decide if we keep as he will likely be in the same situation again next season. There was disagreement about which was better (Southampton or Porto) because of the league quality vs. CL experience. I think it would be better to go to a mid-table Prem club who play attack minded football (Stoke, Southampton, Everton, Bournemouth, West Ham) where we see him against tough competition every week, personally.

I'd think we will still need another more experienced striker who is reliable enough if we loan him out, but is not going to be too upset sitting on the bench most games. Not sure who that would be, and Pep doesn't really like pure strikers, unless they can play out wide, have pace and can work hard, which is not easy to find on the cheap or when they are older.

We have a lot of players that are not going to be here so we are going to have to sign a lot of players to replace them. I was already speculating amongst my football fan friends here that we might go spend 200m, and then I see that we may go out and spend over 150m.

Players I think will go:

Nasri, Yaya (wants a 2 year deal and other clubs offering), Hart, Navas, Vinnie, Nolito, Clichy, Zaba, Delph, Bravo, Denayer, Mangala, Bony, Adarbioyo (sadly).

That's 14 players from the first team and 8 who get games or are expected to. I also think we will loan out Garcia rather than keep him next season so he can play more regularly, as we need to improve our midfield and I can see the doubts aboit whether he physically ready to play as a holding midfielder for us as he is not quite suited to the no. 8 roles of KDB & Silva, and we also have to pin some hopes on Gundogan coming back from his injury -- which we surely will, so we need at least 1 holding midfielder to come in, and probably 2.

So that's 8 players we need already and I haven't included some who I know some think will go (Ottamendi, Kola and Sagna -- I think we may keep them). We could possibly sell Aguero, so that would actually be 9. I expect us to make a crazy amount of moves this summer, yet there will still be work to do.

Prezlke - not sure how Vince will leave. I think he has at least 2 years left on his contract so no one will pay him more, given his injury record. Retirement? Not sure how that affects his contract.

The championship manager point was made because in that you bid high enough, you get the player. In real life you need the people to get the players. I do not think we will have the quality to get the players we want and it has been proven in the past we are not able to adequately get rid of the players we don't want any more.

What makes us think we can make those 8 top signings?

You may be right but I think and hope not.The future doesn't have to resemble the past.
